Not for thick calve girlies :(
I'm sure these are really nice boots and they were 100% a big step up from anything I've rented. However, I did have to return them after a few ski trips because they pinched my calves so badly I cried multiple times. I guess I do have larger than average calves, but not by a ton. This isn't a problem for me in pants/other types of boots. I think part of the issue was also that I am 5'2" so the boot was hitting the thickest part of my calves whereas it would have been lower on a taller person.
Worst boots I’ve ever had
Probably the most awful experience I’ve had with boots. They are pretty impossible to figure out how to buckle with two big pieces of plastic going down the middle. I got these because of the wide calf fit but I couldn’t even get the last buckle on. Went back to REI and tried a heel lift and that just burned my quads out within 10 seconds of an easy run and my feet were still cutting off circulation from how much it was squeezing my calves. My rental boots felt way better than these. Plus they get scratched up so easily from the buckled on the plastic. I’d run far away from these boots
Great boot!
I have a high instep and was told this was the boot for me. My boot fitter was right. I love the fit and performance. Most comfortable boot I have ever owned. It's important to learn how to properly buckle from the top, down.
These Boots Combine Performance and Comfort
Just finished two days of skiing with these and love them! Great overall performance and quite comfortable.
So much better to get on/off!!
Love them! Getting in and out of a boot so easily has saved me! The micro adjustments help get my foot comfortable and the tongue can be a little tricky, but the complaints I have read lead me to believe that people just don’t READ very well, because I have the boot fine-tuned!
Excruciating pain
For reference I am 5 ft woman, 100lbs with skinny low volume ankles. I bough these with the help of a rei boot fitter staff on a 23.5 because my feet size is 6.5. These have been so painful, shin bangs excruciating pain every time. I am a relatively new skier so I sucked it up for 2 seasons thinking skiing is just painful. I just went to a different boot fitter on a skiing trip because I couldn’t even stand the pain on my first easy run of the day, the pain was unbearable so after looking at my feet the boot fitter told me reà sold me a pair of boots that’s too big for me and my feet and ankles are just dancing inside of the boot and my toes grasping for dear life. Now I am stuck with these pair of boots and it was a huge waste of money. Save your money and go to a good boot fitter before buying.
The search for the perfect boot continues
I’ve had the time of my life trying ski boots from REI and settled on these a month ago after trying on every high volume boot in store with the help of the staff. The walking feature is very difficult to maneuver so I didn’t even bother. After doing everything correctly, still ended up with shin bang. These may work better for a thin calve/skinny ankle skier? Ouch.
