O Drive Carbon High Back Breaks Consistently
My first pair of Now bindings. Love JF Pelchat and the Jones crew as well as this new style of binding/technology. So this is hard for me to write, and wouldn't if it was just something small. But there is def a manufacturing defect with the O drive carbon high back imo. I'm 6 feet tall and weigh about 165 pounds, not a big guy. I bought a 19/20' pair of medium O drive bindings and rode them hard for 2 seasons. Beginning of 3rd season I was ripping some groomers on a choppy day and all of a sudden had no heel edge support. The Carbon High back broke right at the narrowest point near the screw connection to the binding. I called the NOW boys and told them the story and they gave me a new(freestyle) high back. Sweet, least they have great customer support, these things can happen. Next year same thing happens to the other high back in the exact same spot. And they gave me another freestyle high back, which isn't carbon fiber btw. So great customer support who is willing to replace it- even when it isn't technically under warranty. Solid. Pretty sure they still sell the exact same carbon high back to this day to my knowledge(Feb 2023), at least it looks identical-size, shape, width. Check out the photo, hopefully it was just my pair. Freestyle high back replacement has a season and still going strong. They have the same minimum dimensions at that high stress point but is not made from Carbon Fiber. Everything else-straps, ratchets, baseplate and overall responsiveness is great. Just beef up the high back and you've got a winner......
Very stiff, no high back rotation
For the price of these bindings, and how stiff the highbacks are, the lack of highback rotation options are really disappointing. I wanted to use these on my freeride board with forward stance angles and got some nasty calf bite on the front foot. I remedied the issue with a Now highcup on the front foot, but eventually went with a different binding with highback rotation
