Avoid This Cannondale Bike Model
This bike was purchased in July of 2022. Each winter, it's not ridden for 4-6 months due to snow / ice where we live. So I wouldn't call it a hard use bike. Still has original tires on it. My son called today, while riding the bike seat "fell off" he states. So when I came home, I expected to see the bike seat out of its Frame sleeve, and all I'd have to do is reinsert, and use an Allen to tighten down the collar. No, the actually bike seat frame sleeve SHEERED OFF below the collar. Do you have a welder? I have not experienced a frame failure like this before. REI states it's Canondales problem....
Great bike for kids to enjoy.
Just bought this for my daughter today, and she loves it. We have been doing the tag along bike for almost two years now and I knew she was ready for her own bike. Might be a little big for her, but she is doing well with it. She is 8 years old and 4’5” and 85 pounds. Looking forward to doing a lot of bike riding with her.
Good bike so far on trails and road
I will update this review if I don't have the same or similar failures. As of the date of this review, I have bought this bike twice (April 2025 and then May 2025). The first bike, I bought in April 2025 for my 9 yr old son. It was shipped and assembled at REI. Within the first week both pedals had fallen off and the pedals wouldn't insert correctly into the crank arms because the threads were stripped. We could not screw them back in. Either the bike pedal threads, or both crank arms where the pedal is attached threads were totally stripped and failed. This seemed to me to be an improper installation. REI took the bike back and agreed that it would be a rare failure. We agreed and rebought the same bike. It was also assembled at the same REI and we will see how it performs. Overall, my son really likes this bike and took to riding it immediately. We went with the 26 in size over the 24 in size from Coop brand bike for size only as both bikes were very attractive and seemed comparable. The ride is really good and gear switching was easy to learn. It has a bell that my son liked as well. I like the disc brakes for rainy NW seems a good upgrade from rim brakes. It seems a great bike for trails, riding around neighborhood and to/from school. I'm posting this review in case others have similar issue as I would want to flag it as quality issue if others experience it or similar failures as this should not have happened so quickly. I have never experienced this type of cheap thread stripping so quickly on parts that should be significantly more durable. I also appreciate REI's return policy. I am a long time member of REI and bought my own bike (also a Cannondale) from here in 2017 so I have experienced their bike assembly, tune ups, and general customer service and the quality of the other bike too.
Great bike for your daughter.
My daughter loved the bike. She is 4'6" tall and 10 yrs old and it fit her great. I'd recommend this bike.
Perfect bike for our 9 and 10 yr old
Our tall 9 and 10 year old girls love these bikes they're comfortable and very good quality we were able to trade in the practically new REI Co-op 24-in towards the purchase they gave us a gift card that was he percentage of what we paid and it's good to know they have this trade-in that's up to 3 years but you do have to do it in person. We did the gel seat covers that have a toggle for the fitness bikes and the girls like that over the original seats on their own. This is a nice red so high visibility it is basically the Honda red so it's very neutral for a boy or girl we are very impressed with the shifting system as well the brakes and we love that the tires are able to tread through the grass at The Parks when they have to go around someone at times and go off Trail a bit and it has no problem all in all very pleased with the purchase it did take an extended period for shipping it took nearly a month when it was originally expected in a week and a half so when you have it shipped to store there is a delay it seems this has happened to us before so expect to receive it within a month it always says oh you will get it in a week and a half and that's not fact because they ship a ton of merchandise from their suppliers to the store it is an individual it is a whole truck load so it ends up being nearly a month just a heads up on that
