I took my Mountain Summit Gear “Horizon Easy Set Cot” out to Joshua Tree National Park to give it a try. (I currently own the Coleman Trailhead, so I have that as a frame of reference.) The Horizon Cot comes in about 4lbs lighter than my Colman Trailhead at roughly 18lbs 3lbs. For a cot, I thought the pack size was reasonable at (29” x 11.5” x 6.5”). The bag it comes in is plenty big for the contents, so you won’t “struggle” getting the cot back into the bag after a weekend camping trip. Upon opening the cot for assembly, I noticed: • The poles are collapsible and have a steel cable on the inside that connects them; similar to tent poles. I thought this was a good touch. • The 600D Polyester fabric is super sturdy and durable. • The base of the cot is an “accordion” design that is super quick to deploy. • The base has circular plastic pegs on the feet that will prevent it from damaging your tent floor. I really appreciated this design in contrast to my Colman Trailhead. (See Attached Photos) I thought the cot was easy to assemble. There is a hidden pocket you slip the poles through that took me a minute to find. But, once you set it up once, it's easy to remember the process. The second time I assembled the cot, it took me about 5 minutes. At 6’0”, this cot was the perfect length for me. It left enough room for a pillow and my feet. The cot is comfortable and was long and wide enough for my average body build. It feels sturdy and doesn’t make noise when moving around at night. I had a good night’s rest on this cot. One thing I will mention is that this cot doesn’t have room to place gear underneath. Due to the accordion leg design, all the space underneath the cot is occupied. So, if you’re used to having that extra space, you won’t have it with this cot. This is not a big deal for me, but it’s something to consider. (See Attached Photos) Overall, this cot is built well and it assembles quickly. Both of which I appreciate. You can use this cot to sleep on, as a bench, or even as a table surface to elevate gear off the ground. I think the product was made well for its price and purpose. If you are looking for a cot, I feel like this cot won’t disappoint you. Especially if you’re familiar with cots and are okay with the size and weight of them.

Quality Control Issues

Ordered this online and just received it/opened it. Looks pretty good except for the side rails. They are tent pole-like in that they have 3 sections per pole….but they’re held together by wire. The sections themselves are difficult to put together and more than difficult to take apart. One of the poles is missing an end cap. Once together it seemed ok except that the ends are not supported, only the sides, so the ends sag. I went to take it apart and one of the side poles will not separate/break down (I’m a 6’2”, 200lb construction worker and I couldn’t get it to budge without using tools which I did not do). It’s stuck in the extended position and I’ll be taking this back to the store today. If you can find one that works properly this might not be too bad of a cot, but the one I received is not worth the $100 I paid.

Mountain Summit Gear Horizon Cot

These car camping cots work great. They are taut enough to provide support but not overly stiff. My wife and I use them in conjunction with our sleeping pads and bags - we sleep great on them every time!

Solid cot

Really good car-camping cot that will certainly give you a decent night's sleep at an incredible price when it's on sale. We piled a foam pad, self-inflating sleeping bad, and sleeping bag on top to make it even more comfortable. It's pretty heavy, but only because it's solidly built. Easy setup (just pay close attention to the directions/diagrams the first time around, folks, and you'll have it together in no time) and stores well. One thing to note is there isn't really much room to store stuff beneath it due to the design of the legs. If price is your primary motivating factor, you'll be hard-pressed to beat this if you can catch it on sale.

Great for camping

These are great for a car camping cot. At nearly 20 lbs you can't trail hike with it. I also like that there are none of the cross bars that cabela cots have that stick out 3 or 4 inches. There is minimal sag when sleeping on this, even if you are a toss and turn type of sleeper. Since it doesn't sag it pairs well with memory foam or sleeping pad. Assembly is not difficult at all, and is actually easier than the UL Cots I own. The concept is the same with them all though, lots of tension. Turn it on its side and step on the clamps into the side rails and PULL UP the other side and they will clip themselves in. My wife has to do it the above way.

Terrific Cots!

Due to health issues, we've looked at getting some sort of RV so we could sleep in a "real bed" instead of our pads. When I saw these cots, I wondered if they could keep us in our tent (which we love) a few more years. We are VERY impressed! The cots are comfortable, exceptionally sturdy and stable, are easy to get out of, and they even fit beautifully in our Limelight 3 with plenty of head room. A lot of storage space underneath, with a space large enough for a clothing bag under the head and foot. They are heavy, but for car camping these will be perfect!

Used once and seem like a great product overall.

We have only used these once. They seem well made and sturdy. Only issue we had was that our sleeping matts are slippery on top of the canvas and wider than the cots, so we had to bungie the matts on top to keep them from shifting around. There was a slight slop to our sight, and my husband and I both had to keep adjusting through the night to stay centered. A non-slip pad would definitely help too. We are older campers and really enjoyed not sleeping on the ground.

Good sleep!

I recently purchased this for a couple of nights of beach camping, and it worked out great. I added a small pad on top of it, and was able to sleep comfortably on my sides and back. (I'm 5'11" and 180 lbs). It was great for the beach, as all the feet do a great job to support the cot and not sink into the sand. It also provided a great place for a shady afternoon nap. The canvas top is easy to clean - also a big consideration at the beach. It was quick and easy to put together and disassemble - just insert the poles into the canvas where the little tag is placed. Packs up reasonable small - good for car camping. Too heavy and bulky for anything else.

Seems Good

This cot feels fairly firm when I laid on it, and 10x better than sleeping on the ground when I put a sleeping pad on it. The other reviews say it is hard to put the poles into the cloth part and I have to disagree with them. The instructions came on a piece of paper in the storage bag and they seemed fairly clear. It is also handy that on the back of the cloth part there is a tab that says "insert poles here". It seems a bit hard at first maybe, but they went in pretty easy, and then you just clip that part of the cot to the legs. That was honestly the harder part for me, but that was fairly intuitive. It also stores fairly small, so it is great if you need to save some space.

Great cot

Just bought this for car camping as an upgrade from a leaky air mattress. I found this cot to be well designed, sturdy, stable, and super easy to set up and take down. It's not the smallest, lightest, or cheapest you can find, but I think it's a great compromise and solid value. I assembled it at the store before purchasing and verified that all the parts were present. I slept on it first without a sleeping pad, and while that was certainly doable (and better than sleeping on an air mattress, IMO), I was a little stiff in the morning and I prefer an air mattress on top - the REI Camp Bed is a good one for that. Overall this was a great upgrade and I am super happy with my purchase.

great sturdy cot!

I got his at the stores returns sale, someone returned because the toggle on the storage bag broke??!! Ok, so I win with a half price almost brand new cot! Everything works and was included, no missing parts. Got this so I can sleep in my Tacoma bed with a truck tent so I don't have to sleep on the corrugated floor of the bed. Set up in store to make sure and its a winner! Very sturdy, meant for car camping for sure. Its the secret pockets to slide the aide poles! I will also be using as a guest bed in my tiny apartment with a optional sleep pad. Yay! Great multi purpose purchase! My DYI Overland set up is complete!
