The foam bed above the rubber sole has turned to black lumpy dust, not solid enough to just load glue into. The tops are fine. The soles are still very useable. I'd had them in my closet for three years, put them on and they felt great, but then the toe end of the sole sagged... Then the black debris started coming out. Unless you can be SURE the formulation of the foam has changed to something that will last more than a few years, avoid them like the plague. I, too, found they can't be resoled, even for the $140 listed on the LOWA website. That's a terrible waste of materials for a boot that appears to have been made to toss in a couple of years. A serious waste of money. Fast Fashion boots? Yes, I'm disgusted.
Hiked 10 miles through Alaskan bog in these, up to my ankles in moose-traps full of muddy water. MY FEET STAYED DRY. These are awesome, I just cleaned them with dish soap and water and they look brand new!
I have had these boots for a couple of years and I love them! We have hiked the grand canyon in July, wet mountains in Europe and now I can add a foot of snow in winter. My feet feel great no matter the weather and temperature. Of course having good socks helps but a great pair of shoes can make all the difference. It takes every hiking experience to the next level.
I've been wearing Renegade boots for 23 years. I'm sorry that they can't be resoled, but because they fit my feet so well and are generally a very well made boot, I've stuck with them. HOWEVER, this last pair was an anomaly in that the stitching around the toe box on the right foot came apart with less than 50 miles on the boots. Also, when I turned them in to REI for exchange, the sales associate noticed that there also seemed to be some dry rot on the soles. The boots were less than a month out of the box at that point. Nonetheless, REI made good and exchanged the boots for a new pair. I'll stick with Renegades unless the fluke becomes the normal.
I love these boots - I have hiked in them all over the world for more than 20 years, mountains, forests, deserts. They last about 4-5 years under constant use (because they are so comfortable, I wear them all the time). Even when the stitching is fraying and they start to look ragged, they stay waterproof, so my old ones become my gardening and muck boots. The only caveat is they are not good on ice or slippery surfaces (i.e. wet logs). I add YaxTrax for ice, and avoid the logs!
Good boots, but after about 2/3 of sole use, the soles detached from the boot. These are 240 dollar boots that cannot be resoled.
Love the boot. I have these for several years. They are comfortale, truly waterproof, and are holding up well to lots of outdoor life - probably less hiking and more outdoor landscape and rural work than most people do who are looking for boots. One request to REI and to Lowa: Please include lace length in product specs. I need replacement laces, but no place says exactly what length the laces should be. I calculated length as 140 cm based on existing lace removed from boot, but Lowa doesn't actually carry any laces in that size.
This boot was a gift for someone that has trouble finding boots that fit her properly. She loves them so much that I bought a second pair for her.
