Firepit Griddle Review

The Griddle arrived in a timely manor to my house. It was well packaged. The griddle is 8.8 pounds. I cooked Breakfast which included Sausages, Bacon and Eggs. As it was the first cook with it, I applied some olive oil; I know it had been seasoned but it needed more as this is the proper way to cook. My first impressions were : Heavy duty skillet (not going to backpack this), Very rough surface (not a non-stick), Even heat distribution, Not a bad price. Biolite should strive to get the cooking surface smoother; It sticks food badly. I sanded the cast iron down a bit and re-seasoned it. Works much better.

Love it!

Sturdy griddle. Good for the price. Agree with other reviews that surface was too rough. Grinded it down and reseasoned it. Used it on the girl it, on the grill, and even inside. Working much better now and will last for years to come.

Fire Pit Griddle

Worked great for searing steak, and actually cooked the steak pretty well - you just need to really watch the meat & turn it often. There was no way I could get an egg or a pancake flipped with the VERY rough cooking surface. I'm a Dutch Oven cooker from Boy Scout days, so I power brushed the cook surface to make it smoother, like my DOs. A very stiff wire brush on a 10,000 RPM grinder works well. Then a good cleaning with soap and a re-season. Helped quite a bit. As it gets more seasoned with use, the cook surface will improve.Otherwise; a great addition to the cook stove, 4 stars for the rough cook surface.

Cook all the things

I've used this product a couple of times since buying it in November 2020. For me this has been used for backyard, socially distanced hangouts. So far it has been an excellent experience. Follow normal cast iron rules when using! The only downside I've experienced is the challenge of adding more wood into the fire. Not a ding on this cast iron itself, but more so the overall fire pit's design. Make sure you have some mitts to remove the cast iron. If you don't have mitts handy, then the Biolite Firepit Poker is actually perfect for hooking into the hole on the handles on either side. I also melted my tongs and spatula on this the first time, so make sure to use metal versions.

Not a good start

I am very disappointed that when I removed the label/sticker from my new griddle a large patch of adhesive/sticker was left stuck to the griddle. The pre-seasoned griddle had to be washed with soap before its first use, and even then ive had to resort to trying to bake off the adhesive. For the price of this griddle I would have thought BioLite would have used a less destructive adhesive for its label on cast iron.

Thanks for sharing. We’ll pass this along to our manufacturing team. This is quite a unique situation since the sticker is designed for easy removal. We hope you get to enjoy your griddle.

Pretty rough finish

Nice size and shape. Cast iron does have pretty rough surface though, even rougher than Lodge puts out. I am going to use a flap disc on angle grinder to knock down the finish some and re-season. Other than surface being so textured build quality looks good. I think it will be great pan with a little work.

Great indoors

I bought this to have something to use inside on my gas stove that was big enough for 2 burners. I also wanted something with sides tall enough to hold juices. I just used it for the first time for a seared salmon basted in a honey teriyaki sauce. I did go ahead and season with oil in the oven as the company states in faq’s even though it is supposed to be preseasoned. It performed perfectly, no sticking and plenty of room. So much better than getting out 2 skillets. I recommend.

Finish cooked off quickly…

… which led to some rusting. I can work with it but it just means I will have to essentially season regularly.

Perfect griddle for Coleman stove & at home stove

Bought to use with our Coleman Stove on camping trips, but has come to live in out kitchen for full time use on our gas stove top. Makes killer pancakes, grilled cheese, burritos, quesadillas on camping trips and at home. Worth every single cent, might need to buy another to live in the gear box for camping, and keep the first one at home.

Get the angle grinder ready

Really like this piece of cast iron. Great size. Just what I was looking for. My only gripe is the cooking surface is just rough. Spent some time smoothing it out with my angle grinder. Was worth the effort. Soo smooth! Non stick and easy to clean! Looking forward to the next cookout
