Amazing backpack for both an overnight or a longer multiple day trek. First, I loved how comfortable this pack was. I took it on a 21 mile trip the first time I used it and there was no “break in period”. I also really appreciated the big pocket on the front of the pack. The location and size of all the store felt really thought out and made getting snacks or items needed items quick out of my pack while hiking. Last during the warm weather, I sweat a lot, but the pack still felt really breathable, even in the hot summer weather. Overall, I really like all of the updated features from my last Gregory pack, I have been using Gregory packs since I started backpacking 14 years ago. I am always impressed by the new changes that come out with each design.
As a short woman, I am super please with this pack! I am 5'3" and have a longer torso, just shy of 17", but the XS/S is a great fit. The pack is a little wider, and less tall, so it fit well. The straps are well cushioned, including the waist belt. I especially like the FreeFloat 360 as it helps the bag stay balanced while you move. The back is also very well venilated; I was super impressed that when I took the bag off for the first time, my back was not dripping, despite 80 degree temps and a pretty steep climb. My sleeping bag fit well into the bottom and I appreciated the sectioned main compartment. I also like the side entry to the main compartment; makes it easy to grab items without rummaging through. The lid held a surprising amount and had a great inner pocket to hold keys and wallet. The hideaway water bottle pocket is a little larger than would be my preference. While it was super easy to reach and get the bottle in and out, I prefer a slim line bottle, so it slipped out when I would bend over and when I fully swung my arms, I did bump it occassionally with my elbow. A widemouth 32 oz reusable would probably be a perfect fit. I was also pleasantly surprised by the ability to hang a hydration pouch in the pack. Definitely a nice bonus in areas where water is few and far between. The pocket made it easy to hand the reservoir and still have access to the main compartment. I was lucky enough to receive and test this pack in exchange for my honest review.
This is my second Gregory pack, I already have a smaller one that I love and this upgrade! I recently moved cross country used this 60pack to live out of- as my partner and I camped across! It was a great adventure and this pack was well suited for the task.
I recently upgraded from the Deva to the Kalmia. I took my new pack on a 17-mile trek in the end of summer heat and on a 10-miles hike along the coast. The 17-mile trail had minimal shade, so the mesh back-panel made the entire experience enjoyable because it was so good at keeping the air flowing between my back and the pack, that I didn't have the heavy feeling of a sweaty pack as the day wore on. I also really enjoyed how easily my pack moved with my body during my coastal hike (we ran part of it and the pack remained comfy). Would definitely recommend this pack for anyone who likes to hike in warmer weather!
I have the European version of this bag (if it's different) but one can't write a review on that website. Love it! Comfortable and easy to adjust. My previous backpacking bags weren't easy to adjust so it's great to finally have a properly fitted bag. Also, the free float system adds to the comfort which is again something I'd not gone across before. The water bottle holder is handy, as are the many pockets for organisation. Hip belt pockets are a good size for holding phone etc and it came with a rain cover. Could've chosen a lighter rucksack but the extra features are worth the extra weight
This pack is Awesome! It fits all of my winter gear comfortably, and has so many pockets to store gear. It's very comfortable, and with the adjustable hip belt fits my larger frame perfectly. I love the east to access water pouch as well. This is my new go to backpacking pack, and can't wait to take it out again.
I love everything about this pack. The color, the fit, the sleek design...but most of all, the FUNCTION! Gregory made some big promises about plus size packs and they truly delivered with this one. This will be my go-to back for multi-day backpacking and climbing trips. My ONE gripe is the U shaped zipper on the brain of the pack ( I have to fully take my pack off to utilize it). But it does have a smaller horizontal zippered pouch as well so its not enough to remove a star. It is comfortable, functional, and everything bigger bodies have been asking for to enjoy the outdoors.
I’m 5’4 145 I got a xs/s the pack fits good, and carries a 20-30 pound load well. My only issue is the shoulder straps started to hurt after 20 miles, I think they need to be slightly wider.
This pack is so so comfortable and versatile. It has a pocket for everything and designed like a dream. Makes carrying a lot of weight on a weekend backpacking trip very comfortable and in the heat and humidity, that means the world. The material has held up wonderfully. I use this as my bag on vacations as well as for bavkpacking. The Gregory 3 liter reservoir works great in it. I really love the suspension frame for any trip, but again, it’s so much nicer having it in the summer when it is so hot. Gregory bags are worth the investment and they never disappoint.
Bought this as a goft for my wife. Its a high quality pack. It's great for begins and intermediate backpackers. Its lightweight and durable material as well as a comfortable fit, everything needed in a pack. The only thing I'd say it's lacking is more pockets and dividers, but thats typical for the smaller size packs. It has the essentials but more would help me stay more organized out in the woods. It's great as a 1-3 day hiking pack if your into minimalist camping. May be a little big to through on your back while snowboarding/skiing/biking but would still work.
