Sizing Notes

Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements.

SHORT: Some pants are available in short sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizes.

TALL: Some pants, shirts, jackets and parkas are available in tall sizes, which generally means an inseam that is 3 inches longer and a rise that is 1 inch longer, a shirt or jacket body that is 2 inches longer, a parka body that is 2.5 inches longer and sleeves that are 2.5 inches longer than regular sizes.

Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.

Inseam is measured to the floor.

Great Alternative

These briefs are a great alternative to more expensive brands and they’re very comfortable too. I’m an active guy who does a lot of outdoor activities…running, biking, hiking, camping, etc…so I need underwear that wicks sweat and holds up well. During such activities, I wear moisture wicking briefs such as these REI Everyday Briefs. Otherwise I always just wear plain white cotton briefs or “tighty whities” at all other times. These briefs do a good job of wicking sweat, staying in place, and holding up through a long day of strenuous activity. They’re soft and comfortable, as well as perfectly snug in all the right places without being constrictive or too tight. They also aren’t overly expensive and are readily available when I need them. My only wish is that REI made/offered these briefs in plain white. If they were white, I could more easily toss them in the laundry with my other white briefs instead of washing them separately. Plus, I like what I like…and I will always prefer to wear nothing but plain white briefs.

New Supplier for REI Briefs?

I bought REI briefs in fall of 2021 and they were among the best fitting, most comfortable briefs I ever bought. However, these REI briefs I bought in March 2022 were the worst! As mentioned in other reviews, the briefs lack support and the leg openings are too large and they ride up. They're very uncomfortable. I can only suppose REI changed suppliers for 2022.

Pretty good, but signs of wear after 8 months

I'm 5' 11", 165'bs, with trim athletic build. I ordered M. They are snug, but not too tight. They stretch extremely well, so snugness is not a huge problem. This is my second order of these briefs. I ordered 3 pair about 8 months ago and I've worn them in all kinds of activities from a lazy day at home on weekend, to many 25-mile kayak trips, to lots of BJJ training. I can already see signs of wear, specifically loss of elasticity around the leg openings. I anticipate that after one year of use, the leg openings will be looser than I would like. I'll provide an update in some months. Overall, I like them and they are not too expensive, but I have questions about longevity, thus the 3 stars.

the fit of the last version was great

I reviewed an earlier version of these from a year or two ago which I liked a lot. 5 stars. The fit for these is completely different. The leg holes are too big and the front is too small. I'm a tall-ish, relatively fit long-time biker, and my legs are not skinny. The fit of the previous versions was just right for me. These are going back. This color wasn't so great but it's all REI had and it's just underwear. The material might be as good as that in the earlier version but I didn't wear them enough to find out.

Odd fit

Fabric and feel is good. Top elastic is comfortable. The big problem with these briefs is the elastic on the legs. You can see from the picture there's like a 90 degree cut to them? Well, for me at least, there's not enough support. The leg elastic is loose because of the shape and I tend to "fall out" when moving certain ways. It made for some awkward moments when I was constantly trying to re-adjust and get everything back in its place.

No longer my everyday brief

These used to be amazing, so I ordered multiple when they were finally back in stock. The fit is completely different. I found myself constantly tugging at the leg openings, putting them back in place. Returning all of them. For what it's worth, the ones I love were made in Indonesia. These new ones are from Cambodia. What is going on with REI and underwear lately? Nothing available and these are horrible.

Poorly designed briefs

These briefs are terrible! I purchased several pairs to replace REI briefs made previously by a different vendor from Sri Lanka which were the best I have ever owned. Almost immediately these new briefs stretched out and became unwearable. REI should go back to the previous vendor even if it costs a few more dollars to produce.

Not improved on old version

Much different than previous version. Much larger. Legs are loose and elastic doesn't keep them snug. Used to love these underway. Oh well. No more. Have to find something else.

Poor design and too large

These are far too large and not proportionate. I normally really like REI branded items but this is among the worst. I would opt for Ex-Officio, Saxx, Tommy John for quality underwear. A shame... these were not cheap! Not wearable. A large feels like 3xl its not even close.

Poor fit compared to earlier version

Leg opening too large. Elastic at legs very weak. Probably would stretch out more and not last. Am returning. Like other things, red quality is going downhill. I used to always buy rei. Going back to Ex Officio for briefs, higher, consistent quality
