Great poles for all seasons
Received free product
The new Leki Cross Trail TA hiking poles are one of the most comfortable and user friendly poles I have handled in a long time. These are typical Leki three segment poles with speed locks for easy length adjustment (100-135cm). The poles themselves are heat-treated 16, 14, and 12 mm aluminum shafts that provide nice lightweight stiffness. Leki does not use traditional straps for these poles, but instead has incorporated their innovative “trigger shark frame strap mesh” which is a minimal glove that stays on your hands. There is a small loop on the glove that clicks into a quick release on the pole allowing you to easily free your hands for other tasks on the trail (hydrate, check map, etc.). The grip is a cork looking EVA foam that was very comfortable. Taking these out on various terrain trails, I was impressed. The glove system may take a little getting used to for some, but it was very comfortable for me. My hands did not sweat in the mesh glove even though the temperatures were rather warm. I found that it allowed me to hike comfortably on all terrains with just a light grip to easily swing and place the pole. This system allows you to transfer the load off your knees and lower joints which is a welcome relief on longer treks. The poles can be used for all season adventures utilizing Leki’s interchangeable basket system.

Great Idea, Poor Execution
I love the concept of these poles; a removable grip that pops on for support and then slides right off when you need to change grip. No fumbling with straps and a really solid strap mechanism! I tried these and they worked great! Slide ride in, good to go, little pressure on the trigger and pop them off. Great! Well, I took them on an overnighter as a shakedown and as soon as they got even a little bit of dust on them, the friction on the attach/release mechanism increased by approximately 1000X. They would not slide in, with the gate held all the way open I had to force the loop to go back in, etc. It just doesn't work when dirty and hiking tends to be well... kinda dirty. After an hour I gave up and just used them as loopless poles, which they were pretty good at. It's a well made pole, the flick lock system is good and easy to micro adjust, the cork grips are nice and the rounded top is a good fit in the hand. This exact same pole with standard loops would get 4 or 5 stars but the whole selling point was the glove/loop thing which failed spectacularly so, two stars. I will say, if you don't plan to ever take the straps off while hiking and just want solid support, these would be fine. If you do change your grip often for up hill, down hill, sidehilling, etc. pick something else.

Surprisingly Comfortable

Received free product

I’ve yet to use the Leki cross trail trekking poles on an overnight trip but so far with short day hikes t hey are great. The cork handles are comfortable and do a good job absorbing moisture. The handgrips straps, while I found them a bit overkill at first they grew on me. They are convenient to click on and off when stopping for a quick snack or grabbing a picture at a scenic viewpoint. The one downside is the lack of shock absorption. I own a pair of REI poles which have a shock system, which is very nice during awkward scrambles. Overall, recommend this for any casual to advance backpacker.

Excellent on all trail levels and terrain

Received free product

The Leki Cross Trail 3TA trekking poles are a excellent accessory to my hiking adventures. I used the poles on moderate difficulty trails with great success. Because the poles collapse and adjust with ease, I could modify the height quickly or pack one of the poles when two were not needed. I especially liked the adjustable straps, which are more like a glove. They are comfortable and even, eliminating irritation that can sometimes happen with simple straps. Because the straps can be easily removed, the poles were great for short hikes when needing a little more support for balance. Overall, these are great poles for hiking. I can see them being useful for snowshoeing as well!

Sturdy and lightweight. Not a fan of the hand loop

Received free product

I was excited to give these a go and I was not dissapointed! The dual locking mechanism works great. I didn't need to readjust them at all during a 10 mile hike. I was a little dissappointed that the hand grips are not actual cork but that was on me for not reading the details. The one thing I really didn't like was the hand loops. I'm already a sweaty person and these made it worse. They were also frustrating because I couldn't easily slip my hand out in order to scramble rocks. I ultimately took them off and used the poles without them.

Lightweight and easily adjustable

Received free product

Really love these trekking poles. They are very lightweight yet durable and come with nice palm straps that I found helped with blisters. The cork grips seem to be fully waterproof, although I was not able to test them in the rain. They have two clasps at the bottom so that you can easily adjust the height, which is pretty standard on most trekking poles. Definitely recommended.

Poles for Rocks

I just used these poles for the 1st time this past weekend in a 1/2 marathon trail race in central Texas and the course was very technical and rocky. These poles made it alot easier and saved my skin more than once as I came very close to face planting after tripping on some rocks.
