Faulty rear wheel spokes
When I purchased this bike I rode it once to and from work (12 miles each way) on a paved bike trail and on city road. Later that same week I rode to work, and on the way back, it felt like my back wheel was loose and it began to wiggle. A couple miles in I checked the back wheel and several spokes had gone loose. The far end of the spokes attach to the rim were super loose. I took my bike in to REI for repair and they said it appeared to be a common issue with the Salsa bikes. They just fixed the spokes and I will take it on a test run.
Great for commuting
I've only ridden it for about 100 miles but it's been a really nice bike for commuting and trail riding. Lots of places to mount bottle cages and bags, and it's pretty comfortable. Only complaint I have so far is the brakes being squeaky, but they still work well.
Great value with everything most people need!
I use this bike primarily for recreational/exercise cycling on mixed surfaces (pavement, gravel, dirt, occasional trails) and commuting. Mostly relatively short rides, though I would feel confident going on longer rides/bikepacking on it as well! I wasn't totally positive I would like this build because I have been accustomed to higher-end groupsets (Shimano 105, SRAM GX), carbon forks/frames, and hydraulic brakes, but I love it so far! Everything seems to work just as smoothly and reliably as the more expensive builds I have ridden in the past. I love that even this lowest build comes with WTB tubeless-compatible wheels. That was a main reason I chose this bike over competitors. I did upgrade to tubeless-ready tires since the stock tires that come on this and the Sora build are 30 tpi and not considered tubeless-ready, which for me was worth the upgrade. With gravel tires and the ability to run lower pressures being tubeless, I don't think I'll miss having a carbon fork at all. Overall I think this bike is an excellent value and has everything most riders will want and need. People concerned about bike weight will probably want to look elsewhere though, but they were probably never looking here to begin with. Also my experience buying from REI in Farmington, UT was great. When I was trying to decide on the bike I talked to Asa in the bike shop in Farmington who was able to give me a lot of valuable advice and recommendations. They did a great job getting the bike set up tubeless for me with my new tires and also making sure it was adjusted well for me when I came to pick it up.
Smooth
Rides smoothly, gears shift well, not much to say other than I like it!
