The description of this product states "main corner grommets" this tarp does not have traditional metal grommets but rather loops at the corners. In fact, these corner loops are rather large for fitting over tarp poles that have a reduced diameter traditional for such grommets. The extra weight four metal grommets would add are worth it to me, so I will be returning this. I didn't use this so I can't speak to it's other qualities but I did originally select it for all the loops on the body making it available for many set up options.

Is it too big?

Love the tarp. For something as simple as a tarp, it is very well thought out. In addition to the tie out loops on each corner, there are three more on each side and five more making an X in the center, for a total of 21 anchor points on the top. Additionally, there are three loops on the underside where one can hang a lantern (or if you're like me, eyeglasses). The included stakes are as useless as every other set of included stakes. The guy lines are red & reflective which is nice. The stuff sack is enough oversized that I can include a 50' ridge line, 3 wooden toggles and a double wide polycro ground sheet. At 12 x 12, I can comfortably fit my family of four under here. The only downsides to a tarp this large are that it might be tough to find enough space to pitch it. And the stakes.

Exactly what I was looking for

I have been looking for a low volume dining fly for some time and this fit the bill. I started out trying to use it without poles and this was a workable system but found myself in a couple situation without workable trees so I upgraded to two 8 foot adjustable poles (found at REI). This brought the system together and made it usable in any situation. The tarp itself is great and completely packed, with guy lines and stakes is only slightly larger than a nalgene. The loops give it added flexibility for different pitching situations. It really is a great solution for a small rain/sun shade.

Fantastic tarp! Dry space in a storm

Bought this before a weekend backpacking trip where we expected potential rain storms. comes with a bunch of reflective guy-wires with cool little slide lock tensioners and anchors. I paired it with a single folding pole. pole+tarp added about 4lbs but i split it with wife. So glad i picked this up as we woke up in our tent to storms. Having set it the night before we had plenty of dry living space near the fire so we could make coffee and breakfast while it poured rain. has attachments all over it for as many configurations as you can come up with for pitching. Went in to buy the kelty 12x12 and picked this up as it was cheaper and a couple of ounces lighter.

Excellent Tarp for my Needs

I used this during a week-long motocamping trip to the Eastern Sierras near Alabama Hills. It was very windy almost every day. After a few redesigning attempts I found a good configuration. It never failed during the trip. I really don't understand the setup issues some experienced. I always setup new gear at home before taking it out. To not do so is asking for problems be it tent, bag or pack. I am going on my first hammock camp with the tarp soon.... check it before using so it can be returned I'd dissatisfied.....

Great tarp

This is my favorite tarp because it gives the best atmosphere over your picnic table on a rainy day. A black or brown tarp casts a heavy shadow. But this tarp gives a warm glow. Using this item to its full potential takes some planning and knot knowledge ; Bundle this with 100ft of paracord, and don’t be afraid to cut the cord to the lengths you need to set this up. Also, learn the bowline and the truckers hitch & rearrange your picnic table to align with the tree line. Room for improvement: the included ropes have confusing plastic bits on the ends. How does this help me hang my tarp? Also, the directions in the bag speak more to tents than tarps.

Wonderful and Versatile... A Must Have for Anyone.

I will start with the three minor setbacks I found: 1) Corner anchor points are too large for poles. 2) Guylines are very slim and attachment (not the tensioner) is plastic and a bit frail; being a 12 ft tarp, this brings some concern with stronger winds. 3) Fabric is very light (weight and/or color), so it's not the greatest protection from the sun. Okay, on with the good points. This is a GREAT bargain and mostly very well designed, with guyline attachments every 3 ft along the edge, to enable multiple configurations. And the ridgeline has tie out points as wel, on the underside. The tarp includes stakes, and guylines that are reflective and have smart anchor attachments that allow quick connections without knots. Overall, I camp with my truck, so this tarp works great to allow me to cover much more than the bed. And I can use it to shade my patio area too, when I'm not out camping. As well, it packs down well to fit into a bug-out bag. In short, I would say this is a must have for anyone.

Rain or Shine Life-saver

Two notable camping trips that this tarp absolutely made. One, our campground was a completely unsheltered pad in the middle of a marsh in June. Temperatures in the nineties, not a cloud in the sky. This tarp provided shade, shelter, and the breeze underneath felt *cool*. We would've wilted without it. Two, I bravely went camping on a rainy weekend at the beach. Situated my tent so it had a dry 'yard' under the tarp - sat with a hot cup of tea and watched the rain fall. The strap system is a little bit of a bummer - I keep my kayak transport cam straps in my car though, so I generally just use those instead and make it work. This tarp also doesn't come with poles - so be prepared to hitch it to fixed structures until you're ready to buy some. I haven't sprung for poles yet and have had plenty of good use out of it! Otherwise - easy to pack up, great lightweight material, lets light through but creates wonderful shade.

This Tarp is FREAKIN AMAZING!!

This Tarp is FREAKIN AMAZING!! We purchased this to take on our first backpacking trip. We live in Texas and traveled to the UP in Michigan. At that time of year, we experienced sun, rain, windy conditions and a cold front. As new backpackers we wanted some extra comfort from the elements. This tarp delivered! We use it on every trip now. Super light weight, strong, multipurpose and easy to pack.

Ripped in wind on 1st use

Ripped during 1st use inside of the reinforced edge loops in wind, not rubbing against anything, appears to have started at tip of reinforcement triangle stiching. No ripstop weave to stop tear from extending across entire section. I bought it a year ago, so no refund or return. Setup isn't difficult once you see what works for you, and I like the loops throughout the tarp, but the material is way too flimsy and lightweight.
