Replacing an original Monkey Fleece
I am pleased to have received a replacement for my original Monkey Fleece however I am dubious about the quality compared to the original - the fleece is not as good quality, I hope it wears well. The arms are longer and wider at the wrist and need adjusting, the seam is now on the lower part of the arm rather than on the top which was a feature of the original. The neck is a nice snugger fit. The jacket is slightly longer than the original which is good. It is lighter than the original which is probably a combination of thinner fleece and lighter weight fabric and seams are not french seams so not as reinforced. Detail just seems to have slipped. I will keep it but feel a bit disappointed at this price point because I LOVED the original jacket!
same great fit and design
I purchased this to replace an old one of this same style and the fit was similar. Very few changes to the design (purchased last one 10 years ago). very happy with the replacement.
Still the best fleece jacket
I've bought this same fleece jacket for close to 6 years. Every version I buy is slightly updated but still fits so so well. They hold up well, are comfortable and warm. Highly recommend.
It's just ok
I'm 136 lbs 5'8". The Medium fits. Online it looks like it would be a warm coat/jacket, it's just average. In fact, it's surprisingly thin without much "body" to it. It's definitely not the quality REI outerwear I have had in the past. Honestly, you can find a Columbia fleece jacket at Marshalls or TJ's (I have) for less than half the price of this one, and much better made. I would have returned it, but I needed something quickly so I'll keep it.
Wanted to Love it
I bought this jacket to replace the same one I’ve had for more than 10 years. Unfortunately it seems like they’ve changed it. Overall, it’s a good looking jacket and the material was super soft BUT the material was also thinner and didn’t seem like it would be warm. The sleeves are now too wide at the wrists too and left about a 2 inch gap. I have small wrists but I read another review that mentioned the same thing. I really wanted to love the jacket but ended up returning it. Hopefully they’ll make some improvements for the next version.
My old monkey fleece fleece is the best
I bought my fleece at least 10 years ago and love it. I ordered a the new blurple color as it great online. Im sorry to say I returned it because I it seemed shiny and thinner than before. My old front pocket and under the collar was a stretchy blue similar to the fleece. I don't like the gray large pocket. I am still wearing my old fleece, it is becoming thread thin but I love it. I hope you can improve the fleece and colors. These are all pretty dark. I am hopeful for down the line, a new color and less shine!
Very nice, but not the same.
I have been purchasing these products for over 30 years. MH is my choice for active style clothing. Because of the great quality of the products, I don’t have to replace items often. In this case I replaced a monkey fur jacket. Sadly, they changed the material used in production. Good jacket, just not the same as the original. Thinner, less dense, not the fluffy jacket I expected. So much for ordering online. Still warm, and nice looking, just not the same..... just saying
Mountain Polartec High Loft Jacket
I bought my first Mountain Hardwear Polartec High Loft jacket 11 years ago and I still wear it. The new Polartec High Loft jacket I bought last November doesn't seem as thick and is quite bigger in size compared to the one I bought 11 years ago. Aside these two minor details, I love my new Polartec jacket which keeps me cozy and warm on my outings in cold weather.
Nothing like the original!!
I have the original MH monkey fleece from over 10 years ago, best jacket I have ever had. The fleece is a way thicker material and the quality is 10x better. This new version I got the fleece material is not nearly as high loft and looks shiny. Really hope they will go back to the original that was loved by everyone, not to mention way more flattering.
It's nice, but
I bought this fleece to replace a monkey fur fleece from 14 years ago that I had lost. Unfortunately, this new version is not nearly as warm as the original. It's warm and if I didn't have the original to compare it to, I'm sure I'd be very satisfied and happy with it. The small seems to run slightly on the large end of the spectrum.
