Exceeded high expectations!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As an avid hiker and outdoorsman, I’ve always found Marmot gear to be comfortable, durable, and stylish...so when I found the need to get new rain gear, I was very excited to upgrade to the Knife Edge Rain Jacket. The verdict is in, it exceeded my already high expectations! First and foremost it keeps you dry, which at the end of the day is the most important feature of any raincoat. But that isn’t all. Often rain jackets will feel clammy and binding, and too they can feel overly warm, especially during a spring or summer storm. But the Knife Edge has accounted for this by offering plenty of ventilation while still keeping you dry and comfortable. My favorite feature is the ability to unzip the underarm and armpit areas to keep the breeze flowing. Too, the pockets have a mesh interior so my hands don’t feel sweaty. It is a lightweight jacket, and easy to pack into small luggage, while still offering maximum protection from the elements. Too, it keeps me warm despite its thinness, which is another hallmark of Marmot gear. There is Velcro on the wrists to keep moisture from getting in up the arms, and a slip tie at the back of the hood to keep it snug and waterproof. I very much like the hood’s stiff, short bill which helps keep my face dry without cinching over my eyes or obstructing my vision. The zipper’s move easily, the stitching is flawless, and the color is consistent and rich. It has a tailored fit that is far more flattering than most rain jackets. In fact, this is my go to jacket, even when there isn’t a cloud in the sky. And because it’s a Marmot, I trust in its rugged durability even in the heaviest conditions. You can put this jacket through the paces, and it will look fantastic doing it...and I anticipate it lasting for many years to come. Definitely recommend!

Almost perfect rain jacket

I spent a lot of time comparing rain jackets to purchase and felt like this model is one of the best ones I could get for the price. I wanted to get a jacket that would be practical for backpacking and camping trips, and also just for around town. I have a rain jacket shell already, but I haven't found it to be the best for many reasons, but especially because the hood wouldn't stay adjusted and kept flying off my face. Plus, I wanted the sort of versatile waterproof jacket you can wear while hiking even when it's not raining without being uncomfortable or overheating (vs the non-breathable rain shells you're supposed to only throw on as soon as it starts raining). I think this jacket fits the bill. I ordered an XS and had some second thoughts about it since so many people claimed it ran small or that they sized up to layer underneath. When I got the jacket, I tried it on immediately and was wearing an extremely bulky, oversize knit sweater and the jacket fit fine without being tight in any way while still looking flattering. I also tested the jacket during a 30-minute walk in the rain wearing a long sleeve base layer and a mid-weight fleece jacket and the jacket still had room for bulkier layers with full arm mobility, so I would say that personally buying the next size up might be an unnecessary precaution, especially if you are petite in stature. The pockets are sized enough for tucking your hands in if it's not raining. During the walk in the rain, the jacket did a good job of keeping the upper half of my body dry and the hood extended a bit over my forehead and kept my face dry. Once I adjusted the hood, it resisted wind and didn't fly away from my head. However, when I started walking in a certain direction a tiny amount of rain sometimes got inside, and if I raised up my arms for any reason, like to reach behind my hood to pull the elastic and adjust the hood, some rain can roll from the hand into the sleeve, but not much. Also, moisture vapor can collect from breathing into the jacket (see photos). The fleece near the face on the collar is nice and soft and doesn't irritate. The jacket isn't load/crunchy sounding like some rain jackets can be. I didn't need to vent with the pit zips because I wasn't feeling overheated or like moisture vapor was collecting in my upper body. The hood/jacket has plenty of room also to accommodate lots of thick, long hair. I did a side braid and tucked it inside the hood, and it was perfect. A couple minor pet peeves about the design: - The breast pocket, while useful with the angled zip for reaching across and unzipping easily, is sewn into a triangle shape so you can't fit a rectangular-shaped minimalist, thin credit card holder into it. - The elastic on the back of the hood requires raising your arm up to adjust it, which works fine, but I have concerns over water getting into the sleeves and armpits when you do that during the rain, especially because the pit zips aren't taped like the other zippers. Also, if you pull the elastic enough there will be like 2-3+ inches of elastic just hanging out. Seems kind of silly, but again, not a big deal. - I also wish the jacket covered my butt completely or was thigh-length because a little more coverage over those areas would be useful. This covers half of my bum, *maybe.* Not a deal breaker, but it's something I'm looking for. Overall, I'm really happy with the jacket and feel confident taking it backpacking, and would recommend it to anyone. I got this in a teal color, and it is beautiful.

Gorgeous garment.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My wife has been totally spoiled with this jacket. It's built for someone whose climbing mountains or hiking obscure trails, but keeps her dry and comfortable on a rainy workday. The first thing one noticed with this garment are the zippers that are treated for waterproofing. Also, looking inside the jacket one can see all the seams are waterproofed. I've included photos of the zippers and the seam taping. Another feature that's really cool are the vent zippers under the arms and the mesh pockets. Since the jacket is so waterproofed, one has to vent it out once in awhile. All in all a quality garment that's over engineered.

Perfect for extreme weather

I bought this jacket for a trip to Iceland. I needed seriously waterproof and wind proof. The size Medium was perfect for me to layer underneath for the weather and still look cute. Zero wind or water gets through this jacket. Loved it!

Great design and look but performance is lacking

Purchased this jacket for my wife as a much needed upgrade for her backpacking rain suit kit. It fit great and had great features but unfortunately the first time she went hiking in the rain without a backpack on water bleed through on the shoulders. Pretty bummed for something at this price point.

Made to last

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am really happy with the way this coat sheds water. It is true to size and made of high quality, recycled materials. It should last a very long time. I like that the cuffs, hem and the hood are all adjustable sizes. I am extremely happy with this Edge rain jacket. The only thing I don't like about it it's the one collar doesn't lay down flat if you don't have the hood up. But that is easy to work with. It is also an attractive color.

So far so good!

I purchased the Knife Edge shell to use for a variety of activities: back country skiing & ice climbing in winter, and backpacking & climbing throughout the year. So far it's only gotten winter use, but it's been dry & comfortable to ski in. I'm 5'9, 150 lbs, normally wear a M but purchased a L to layer under. It fits great with my puffy underneath but is also comfortable to wear with a midlayer. As a bonus the teal color is really pretty and the cut of the jacket provides some shape instead of just being a straight-up-and-down tent, which I've found in some other shells I've had. Overall very pleased and excited to use this year!

Simplicity at it's finest...

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you're always on the move, always needing a versatile jacket for those 'just-in-case' moments, and always trying to keep your style in tact, this jacket is for you. It's absurdly lightweight, packs up to about fist-size, and keeps every drop of water away. With all the bells and whistles of jackets these days, I have been more than impressed by the simple, yet functional features of this one.

Sleek Jacket

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Living in FL we get rain all the time. It is not worth an umbrella with the way it rains but this jacket has been a life saver. It is lightweight enough to wear anytime but the waterproof part was it's selling point. I love how the rain rolls off of this jacket. There are plenty of pockets that have zippers that allow your possessions to stay dry. I love that it is tailored to fit a woman and is not bulky and unflattering. I recommend this jacket to anyone for use as a raincoat or as an everyday lightweight zip up. I keep it in my car and it is so handy, I don't know what I would do without this.

Rain jacket

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great rain jacket, got it in black and its really nice, looks nice put on since it has like a waist shape so it doesn’t look all straight. It has a zipper right under the underarm so you can vent in some air through the air which is nice. The arms are a good length so if you have long arms this will work for you too.
