Sweet paddle but way too fragile.
I’m a longtime WW kayaker who has returned to my love of paddling canoes on the rivers and creeks of the Ozarks in recent years. I have a couple of nice solo boats and had been shopping for a lighter paddle for long days of easy paddling when I settled on the Sunburst ST. The paddle was beautiful, super light, and seemingly just what I had in mind until on my third trip I clipped a riverside branch on my recovery stroke resulting in a split paddle blade. It was the kind of light impact that wouldn’t even affect my stroke rhythm so I was kind of shocked. I’d had the paddle for less than a month. I always used another paddle on rocky stuff and even covered the blade with bubble wrap while it was in my camper to prevent marring the blade. In other words, I babied it more that the rest of my gear. As sweet as the paddle is, I will be replacing with something that can survive regular real world use. I had reasonable expectations of a lightweight paddle but this one failed meet even those. If your paddle is never going to bump a rock or root ball, or get banged around in camp or vehicle, the paddle is awesome but beauty alone won’t get the job done.
Very comfortable paddle
I have used the Bending Branches Sunburst paddles for 6 years and about 4000+ miles of Paddling. I have both the bent and straight blade versions. I have paddled the Mississippi, the Suwannee in Florida, the Lewis in Montana, the Namakogan in Wisconsin, the Buffalo in Arkansas, the Everglades and local cypress stands. They are extremely light and surprisingly tough.
Good paddle for a long day of canoeing
Very nice paddle. We'll constructed and very light weight
Great paddle
Just got Bending Branches SunBurst with a carbon shaft. I’ve covered 15 miles of flat water. It’s a delight. Great size and very comfortable.
