Bought it online. Upon receiving it, I immediately unrolled it and noticed the sleeping bag was unusually thin and the loft was non-existent compared to dozen or so other down bags I’ve owned. In my experience, a 30 degree bag needs about 3” of loft. I left it unrolled on the floor for 24 hours and measured the loft at only 1/2” (the diameter of a penny), and decided to return it to REI. It is unsuitable as a sleeping bag. Part of the problem may be the sleeping bag comes from the factory tightly rolled in a small stuff bag, it’s my experience that down never recovers its loft if left compressed for long periods. So buyer beware.
Female here, but I sleep really warm. I took this bag out at the end of September here in the pacific northwest, just outside of Hermiston. The bag was very nice, but holy cow was I cold. I don't usually wake up during the night even if I'm really overheated or really cold but I woke up twice and had to put on most of my extra clothes in order to be warm enough to sleep. I have a big agnes sleeping pad, the cold wasn't from below it was all over. The temperature rating on this bag is definitely too generous. I'll be exchanging it soon!
I love the smooth, comfy texture of this bag. I love the colors, the weight, how compact it fits into my pack. We went on a Scout camp this weekend where temps dropped to 35 degrees. I was so cold all night long. I even put on some layers, but my feet were ice. This will be excellent for summer, but for the price, I need a bag that can pivot to match Oklahoma weather. It changes so fast, I need to know a bag is going to keep me warm. The length fits me well and I was not smushed into it. I am 5'10, 250 lbs, broad shoulders and hips. Plenty of room to roll around in it and the cinch around the top is nice to help keep warm.
I camp in the mountains of Virginia 2 days a week from Sept - April. I know I would not like the restriction of a mummy bag, so, I bought two of these bags and slide one into the other. Based on the temperature I wear different clothes while sleeping. 20 degrees is the coldest I have slept through thus far and this set up works. I do have R7 sleep pad from REI w a fleece blanket on top of that to break the cold. Also, I do have to address my shoulders and head when the temp drops below 35 degrees. I do this with a down jacket a knit cap and sometimes a Rumple blanket. They are easy to pack and easy to carry.
A fine sleeping bag for under $100 (on sale). I'm a relatively warm sleeper, and with a shirt and leggings, I can sleep well at 45F and above, so-so at 35-45F, and it gets cold at anything below 35F. Though it packs down well, the zipper gets caught all the time, it loses feathers with every use, and you can see the light and feel the draft between the baffles and along the zipper. If you are looking for a budged friendly starter sleeping bag for backpacking, this will work well, just know that it has some limitations.
I LOVE this bag. I'm not in to mummy bags, but have one for backpacking when weight, size, and performance matter. I have this for all our car camping. So much more comfortable but has all the benefits of a high-performance lightweight down bag. Compresses well and very lightweight. Nice loft and very, very comfortable. Just don't judge it right away. Give it several hours or overnight to fully loft. Another good idea is to put it in a dryer on very low heat with tennis balls. My wife liked mine so much, she had to get one.
very comfortable, with room to move around in. first sleeping bag I've had that did NOT make me sweat or stay cold. slept better than i do at home. i absolutely love this sleeping bag! I would recommend it to others.
No complaints about this bag! I need a wider space to be comfortable as mummy bags are too constricting for me to be comfortable, but I still wanted down instead of synthetic. This seemed to be one of the only options out there and I'm totally satisfied. Kept me warm on a night in the high 20s while also wearing a few layers while sleeping. It can also be used opened up as a quilt or blanket and is the size of a queen mattress when opened up. The top can tighten, so you can still have that nice pocket of warm air around your body that a mummy bag provides. I think in the future I'll prefer a "tall" sleeping bag, as I'm 5' 7" and my feet are crammed in the bottom if I try to get my whole body including head inside the bag. This bag packs down very small and I hope to try it for backpacking. You wouldn't catch a serious ultralight hiker with this bag, but it will work for me!
Just picked it up for car camping. But going to use it all summer. I pair it with a closed sell sleeping pad. Kinda looks old school but with a modern twist. First impression are good. I’ll update this review after I get 20 night on it. Shouldn’t take to long.
Recent took this on a river trip. I was a little worried about the warmth based on some of the previous reviews, but for us, it was perfect. Everyone sleeps differently and has different setups to consider. Paired with the REI co-op camp bed (high R value) and thermal base layers, we were as comfortable as could be. I see this bag lasting a long time and being a great companion. I noticed when we got the bag it had been compressed in transit (and perhaps warehouse storage), so I puffed it up in the dryer and the loft significantly improved.
