Features

  • AirEvacâ„¢ system relieves hot air that builds up on your eyewear to prevent fogging
  • Rotational motion can cause brain injuries; with MIPS, a low-friction layer slides 10 to 15mm in all directions, reducing rotational motion to the brain during impact
  • Eyewear storage is made easy by channels on the side of the helmet that hold your eyewear in place for those grueling climbs
  • Lightweight Aerocoreâ„¢ in-mold construction improves airflow and ventilation, increases impact resistance and reduces helmet volume and weight
  • Koroyd® material improves ventilation, increases impact resistance and reduces helmet volume and weight compared to traditional EPS foam
  • VaporFitâ„¢ adjustable fit system secures the helmet and makes it comfortable to wear
  • 18 optimized vents provide cooling airflow when you're leading the draft line
  • XT2® antibacterial performance lining helps prevent the growth of odor-causing microbes in the fabric
  • Ultralight single-layer webbing provides cool, comfortable coverage
  • Integrated skeletal structure enhances the strength of the helmet
  • Certification: CPSC, CE EN 1078

The Best

In my ten years of cycling and more than a few helmets, I can say that this is the best I've had. It's light enough, well fitting, cool (in all senses), and highly protective. To address the other reviewer's comment re the three-year life span: The accepted consensus is that all helmets should be replaced within three to five years. Even if it looks perfectly good, a helmet's components degrade over time. That said, the Trace is well worth the money and I recommend it without reservation.

Really pleased with this helmet

I am really pleased with this helmet, it looks good, very bright & hopefully more visible to drivers than my 5 year-old white helmet from a different manufacturer, the right size (I was able to try out the sizes of other Smith helmets in the neaby REI store, no models of this helmet were available at the store). It is comfortable, the straps adjust easily & the wheel adjustor in the back works well. I like the crush webbing & the MIPS together. The helmet seems much safer than my old, non-Smith model. The airflow through the inside of the helmet kept my scalp cool on an 80 degree day.

Solid protector for your noggin

Solid helmet. I was looking to switch things up from the normal contenders and went with Smith. The dual crash protection is really a great feature and hopefully never need to rely on it. The helmet is super light and padding is solid on the inside. I wish they provided a second set of replacement pads for the price but oh well. The back dial adjust has three slots it can lock into so make sure you find the right one for you and you’ll be all set. There’s no need to constantly readjust it unlike some other helmets out there. The sunglasses garage is not ideal and might work best with cycling glasses or smith glasses only. Haven’t tested this in summer heat but I run hot and so far have been fine with this helmet.

Looks, Feels, and Saves Brains Great!

Loved everything about this helmet. Fit, lightweight, and color. I chose this helmet because of the looks AND after reading about Koroyd and MIPS technology, I was convinced of the value. LUCKY ME for wearing this amazing helmet when I was hit by a car recently. After flying over the car, I landed directly on my head, breaking my neck. See the dents in the helmet that despite a direct impact against the pavement, I suffered no concussion. Thank You Smith Optics & Helmets. I WILL be purchasing another when I am back in the saddle one day, and advocate for the importance of wearing GOOD and Proper fitting helmets.

Awesome safe and comfortable Smith Trace Helmet.

I had an older Smith Trace helmet but I wanted one with better visibility. It’s a fantastic helmet as it addresses both blows to the head with its unique Koroyd construction as well as rotational force with the MIPS. it’s light and comfortable with excellent ventilation. It’s great to have it in the high visibility color for our cloudy weather. Just a great helmet all around in function and comfort.

In my opinion, this is NOT worth the money.

In the owner's manual's tiny print, you will find that this helmet only lasts three years. That means it depreciates at about $90 per year if you allow for tax. I suggest it is not worth $90 per year. If you think you must buy this, first look closely at what you can get for, say, $100 and, if you can find out, how long the $100 product will last. The helmet has a clever little adjustment wheel that makes it fit well. This is a nice feature if it doesn't break, but it looks a little flimsy to me---rather like it only has to last three years at most.

Crash tested

The fit of this helmet is perfect, it feels secure but light. After about a year of use, I went OTB and this helmet took the full impact - no concussion! I bought a cheaper model after the fact and wish I had spent the extra money to buy this helmet again.

Size guide not true fit

I've bought a Smith Trace helmet and is really tight around the frontal lobes. My head circumference is 57 cm which is size M according to Smith size chart. Measured the helmet on the frontal area and noticed that is smaller with 1 cm than my old GIRO. Unfortunately not able to return as the company doesn't offer return labels through Canadian shipping partners.

Excellent fit!

Love the fit of this helmet you know its good when you forget it is there. I also got the Wildcat and there is a seamless fit with these two together. I use it for MTB and cyclocross.
