OMG the best hiking shoes EVER! Light, sturdy, and good-looking. Used them every day on my trip to Costa Rica, where I was hiking through the rainforest muddy terrain all day long for over a week. They held up spectacularly. Will be buying another pair for sure
Caveat: I prefer trail runner to boots for section & thru hikes. I tried these out on a 4-day hike in the Bob Marshall Wilderness since they’re so light and relatively breathable, but still wasn’t thrilled. They’re too wide for my narrow feet and I had to lace them tightly to prevent my toes from jamming painfully on downhills. They also started wearing surprising quickly. I did appreciate that they got pretty dry on my feet a few hours after wearing them for an afternoon stream crossing.
These are light, comfortable shoes with a wide, stubby toe box that provided lots of wiggle room and made my feet look small. However, after less than a month of occasional wear the reinforcing strip that wraps the uppers had one spot where it was coming unglued and another where the strip developed a cut. Both were at the base of a big toe where the shoe creased with every step. I could understand that happening at 300 miles of trail walking, but not at 20 miles of mowed grass and streets.
I love hiking but traditional hiking boots are so heavy. I've been doing big hikes and overnight backpack camping in sturdier running shoes to avoid the weight - but miss the ankle support. Stoked to have a boot that feels like a running shoe but with ankle support. The wide toe-box is a HUGE bonus - especially as my feet can swell on bigger adventures. This would be a great shoe for PCT hikers or your quick trail dash between rainstorms....which is where I'm headed now! Love the Berry color - so fun! The locking laces took a little bit of getting used to - but it has a note in the box showing you how to use them which helped.
I’m a fan of these boots! The bright red/pink is a fun color that really stands out. They feel solid and on hikes, but are nice and light and don’t weigh me down or feel clunky. The locking lace system makes it easy to securely tighten the laces and prevents them from loosening while walking. For sizing reference, I wear a size 8 most of the time, but I typically order 8 ½ in hiking or running shoes. The 8 1/2s are right on the edge of being too big and I think I probably could have gotten away with the size 8s. The uppers are really breathable though, so I can just wear thick socks. I’m looking forward to hiking through summer in these awesome boots.
I have been a Topo Athletic fan for a while, I use both their road and trail running shoes consistently. I wanted to give the hiking boots a try and they did not disappoint! No break in necessary, I took them for a three day long backpacking trip in the Trinity Alps and they performed very well. They are light, the toe box roomy and I could wear either a thinner or thicker sock without problems. Vibram sole is very grippy and the ankle is well protected too.
Just received this and as soon as I slid my feet in I thought for sure these were going to be the ones because they were so comfy. Unfortunately as you can see in the picture there is a hard band where the lacing insert ends. Which I expect would rub my feet every time I walk no matter how much sock I wore. Love the color love the squish of the insole and going to look at other models from this brand. Sadly these have to go back though.
I'm a TOPO convert as my long toes have a chance to dance within the shoes designed for healthy toe splay. This hiker runs true to size with room. I measure a 10 and found the TOPO tends to run short much like Brooks so I get 10.5 if it's offered. I've tried size 11 in some TOPOs but only wear those shoes with thick winter socks here in New England. But this hiker worked in a size 10!!! I first got the 10.5 but returned for a 10. The hiker performs beautifully. I forget I'm wearing them. I have a pair of Vasque's for hard core hikes and get that there is a time for a stiff boot. Most of my day hikes do not need a fierce fire fighter style boot. Give these a try in your normal size! I got the red - a dash of fun...
I ordered my regular size and they did that awful crease thing across the top of my foot so i returned them and got a half size smaller and they were perfect. I took a chance and wore them for their maiden voyage up mt st helens and they were awsome. No blisters at all so i was super happy because im prone to heal blisters
Wide toe box is great. Left tongue blades (or whatever you call it ) dig into the left side of foot: create pain.
