I have debated on this for a while, my Takibi setup was probably the best purchase I made last year and this is an excellent addition. It’s bigger than it seems in the ads, but it is intended to be portable, so it’s not 55gal drum size like at camp. I can easily feed 4 and it could be more if you get creative, like hanging a large cut of meat instead of using the racks. But overall, it’s snow peak so it’s high quality metal and workmanship. I really enjoy it, smoking chicken thighs as I write this. If you like playing with fire and cooking your gonna enjoy.
Fun and Effective
First thing you need to understand is that this smoker is very small, so you will be able to smoke 12 chicken wings, 8 thighs, 4 fish filets etc. With that in mind the performance of the smoke is really good and it makes very flavorful food. It is extremely stingy with the fuel and can smoke most things with one chunk of wood and a couple charcoal briquettes. It is highly portable and would make a great smoker at a campsite, especially to smoke some fish that you caught or smoke something as part of a meal or appetizers. Overall I think it is well made (it is Snow Peak) and does its job well, just understand the size. I I tried to attach a video from Dickin' Around Outdoors on YouTube where it is used and reviewed but for some reason the video won't attach. There are two that use this product.
Thoughtfully designed, compact
Yet another winner from Snow Peak. This smoker is well designed and easy to use. You can either use the provided wire mesh trays or use hooks (not included) to hang larger items. It has a small footprint and uses very little fuel. A good addition to this set up is a thermometer, I suggest one that has a wired probe that can reach any of the trays. The temperature does range from the bottom to the top. This would also be good if you wanted to bake without bringing and additional piece of gear.
