Easily some of the best money I've spent on a backpack. I needed a smaller pack than what I've been running, but still with internal and external pockets, plus maybe a way to carry a rope. The Trail 25 does all of it. The straps are comfortable, the pack is fairly light, not ultralight, but not bad, and there's plenty of storage. Furthermore, there's a rainfly built in the bottom zipper. The top opens wide enough that I can get out the stuff I need, even from the bottom. There's a sleeve for hydration, but I use it for guidebooks. There's a mesh pocket inside, at the top, plus the external pocket in the same location and pockets on the side for water bottles or snacks. The external webbing is great as well, perfect for hooking in gear needed quickly like belay. The hiking pole attachments are fantastic as well, but I use them for a stick clip and it's one of the best setups I've had for that application. The side tie downs are obviously for compressing the pack, but functioned really well for me as a way to secure my rope to the bag. For my photographers, I used a capture clip setup on the strap and carried my camera by my left shoulder comfortably. Overall, really liked this pack. One of the best packs for the money, IMO.
GOOD : Holds laptop nice in inside compartment. Inside compartment large Shoulder straps comfy. Water bottle fits nice in side pocket. BAD: Missing small strap ( fell off and gone) that hold shoulder straps together. Was bad design. Had to keep rethreading it on round ridge which made them adjustable. HOPING somebody from REI reads this and posts a place to get a replacement strap. Ten my advice, once in place and adjusted SEW them in! Needs a large pocket on out side middle. Small one at top not enough. I found an 8 x 5 pocket and sewed it on. Zippers for large compartment need a better design, immediately first day bought two small carabiners to help with close and open process.
I was very pleased when I purchased this pack. It was a great price and worked perfectly on a trip with short distance hikes and air travel. However- using this pack with **very** light use for 7 days resulted in loose threads and failures in stitching. I brought it back to my local REI to consider an exchange — but I noticed all the other packs available had similar issues in stitching. Very disappointing, because this pack was replacing a battered 12-year-old Jansport Great pack in your local REI has versions without flaws
We took this backpack camping and all in all I was very pleased. There are plenty of storage compartments in the backpack itself. It easily held 1 weeks worth of clothes plus a full water water bladder and misc camping gear. It also accommodated a couple of Yeti's on the side. I also really like the back with several loops for you to place carabiners to hold things. Would highly recommend.
Punches pretty far above its weight. I use it for everything from snowshoeing to carryon luggage for flying. I love the waist and chest strap, compression straps, as well as the trekking pole attachments. It's got plenty of room for everything you'd want to put inside. For example, on a day hike I'll throw in a hammock, jacket, snacks, and water bottles, and its the perfect size for a load like that. It's got a smaller pocket on top for wallet, keys, doggie bags, etc. The included rain cover is also awesome. Highly recommend. The only thing I would change is to maybe add another small pocket on the front so you could get easy access to snacks without having to dig around, but it's just a personal preference.
I have a lot of packs for hiking, day packs, etc. I’ve been looking for the elusive perfect travel pack, one that fits airlines definition of personal item, has a large single load area but also a few pockets for organizing. I believe this Trail 25 is the best I’ve found so far. This will be my go to travel pack and I’m finding it to be very useful as an everyday carry pack. Very comfortable, but can fold smaller if need be. Can’t do that with a framed pack. Seems durable enough that I don’t have to baby it like a UL pack. At 2 lbs weight it’s definitely not meant for UL hiking but for my uses listed above it’s darn near perfect.
I love this day pack. I use it several times a week. I fill it with my 10 essentials, my old Army 3 liter hydration bladder and a 10 lbs weight for my fitness hikes. On the weekends it’s my constant companion on day hikes with my wife and our dogs. It’s comfortable and hold’s just the right amount of gear. The shoulder straps and back padding makes it easy for me to wear. I haven’t used the built in pack cover yet, but that’s just a matter of time here in Western Washington State. I am getting back into hiking and the REI Trail 25 Pack is a great way for me to carry my stuff. I do wish that the waist straps were a little longer.
I am a college student and got this backpack, it is great, its just the right size and it feels comfortable, however just the other day it raining horribly out and I had to walk across my campus which is a ~15 min walk, even with the rain cover on my bag it still got soaked, my folders, notebooks, papers, and even my laptop got wet. All of my papers notebooks and such were all mushy, then here is the worst part even though my laptop was in another case it now has water damage. I'm disappointed that the so-called rain cover didn't do anything to help keep my bag dry or even anything in it, but that is really my only complaint.
I’m a third year, full-time college student who works part-time. When I’m not doing either of those things, I love to go hiking and snowboarding. Living in the PNW in the winter comes with many (wet) challenges. This pack comes with an easy to use, water-proof cover that stows very small. When it’s snowing on the mountain, I can take the cover out and put it over the pack all while ascending on the chair lift. This back has a chest strap as well as a stomach strap for maximum security while performing tight maneuvers at high speeds.
I now have two of these bags (one for the office, one for the outdoors), and I've bought them for friends as well. The zipper on the main compartment is an excellent design for getting things in and out. Additionally, the pockets on the sides, inside, and 'door' work great for all of my storage needs without being too much. Additionally, the loops that run down the outside, and the straps on the bottom are great for storage and for attaching things. The durability is pretty good, there is virtually little wear from daily use, and it's held up with I've crashed my OneWheel on the road. My one complaint is that the mesh on the side pockets are prone to tearing if caught on, or rubbed against something rough.
