Kid perfect
I got these boots for my 11 year old. Didn’t have time to break in boots and used them right out of the box. Conquered highest peak in Utah and they performed excellent. Not a complaint from my boy on the 26 mile round trip backpacking trip. Carried 25lbs pack much of the way.

My 11 year old needed ‘real’ hiking boots and these looked like he would be happy and I would be happy with less grumbling. He was worried they wouldn’t actually be waterproof and tested them on day one...wonderful. Then we went on 6 mile hike with zero complaints.
Kid likes them
These are the second pair of Vasque boots purchased for my kid after growing out of his Breeze LT's. He hiked hundreds of miles in the old boots that held up so well we are holding on to hand them down to younger siblings. The St. Elias seem stiffer and a little heavier than the Breeze LT's. Went back to Vasque kids boots because they seem as well-made as adult boots.

My son loves these! He wore them for the first time on a very snowy day. His feet stayed dry and warm. He also said they are very comfortable. They are a perfect hiking boot as well.

These boots fell apart
My daughter is seven and an avid hiker. I bought these boots because they were supposed to be a tougher version of the vasque breeze, she had last year. In less than 3 months about 50 miles the first pair fell apart I could stick my fingers in the toes of the boots... we returned the boots to rei got a new pair, which fell apart on a back packing trip after two days toes have holes again. I had to shoe goo and duck tape the boots together to finish our trip. Very disappointed because I have had generally good experiences with vasque. If you are going to market a kids boot as an actual hiking boot they should be made for kids who actually hike, and designed in a way that won't fall apart after minimal use. Would not recommend for any kid who actually hikes..
Hiking shoes
My son says that these shoes are very comfortable and give him lots of support while hiking.

Super comfortable, rugged boots.
My son probably did about 30-40 miles worth of backpacking in these boots from the age of 10-11, not to mention tons of day trips and work. The soles almost look new and the boots are in great shape.
