I have had Tikka's for many years. I bought a bunch of them so I could stuff them in places where I was likely to need a light, like the car, and various backpacks, and coat pockets etc. What I like about them is their reliability. They just don't seem to break. Their low light level is enough for trail walking, but not navigation in the woods. To clearly see the path choices, you have to go up to medium level. High level is generally enough for longer distances. Unfortunately, like most lights, it will occasionally turn on in your pocket or pack. I don't know of any head lamp that has avoided this problem. My one disappointment with the new version is that they no longer have a whistle molded into one of the plastic head strap buckles. Oh well.
Red lamp is just perfect for solo camping. Star watching and cooking over a stove i didn't even notice it was on till i looked down into my bowl and could see. Then something was prowling around in the dry leaves and making a lot of noise. Quickly up to full power and i could see whatever it was wasn't big. Back to dinner, bear free and relaxed.
Works fine for the price. My main complain is about the miss leading description / spec. The 2018 Tikka spec say max of 200 lumens. The new (2019) Tikka spec say 300 lumens, with shorter battery . I have the 2018 model and just bought the new one hoping for stronger light. Guess what? the two are virtually identical. They looks and feel identical. On yesterday's early start toward mt Saint Helens summit, no one in my team could see any difference in the beam strength.
Wonderful product. I love the convenience of being able to use both batteries and a charger. It is comfortable on my head, the light is great, and i just love the look of this headlamp.
I’ve had this headlamp for several years now. Recently took it on a float trip through the Glades and dropped it off a chickee one evening. The next morning, when we could see to the bottom of the water, we fished it out- mainly to leave no trace- not really thinking it was salvageable. However, after spending a night on the floor of the Everglades swamp, this headlamp still works. Super impressed! Great headlamp.
Bought this a couple weeks ago. When used on high lumens I can see about 50 feet away with a charged battery. I also bought the core battery. This is my second Tikka head lamp, I thought my ex took my last one during our divorce this winter but turns out it was rolled up in the tent and I found it this weekend when I went camping. I considered returning it, but I think I will keep it so I have a back up and friends can use my old one when I take them camping. They also work well wrapped around a nalgene to create "lamps" in the tent. I have had my old tikka for 6 years and I use it for everything.
I like that the button control is simple enough that I can fairly quickly re-learn it if I haven't used the light in a while. The brightness is good enough for hiking at night at the highest setting (even the medium setting is adequate for that.)
I actually prefer Petzl headlamps for their design and ease of use. This one is no exception; very easy to use with all the features I need.
I’ve had a few of these now. And I find that for Thisbe price point it is a great lamp. Especially enjoy the red light to preserve night vision.
This is the second Petzl headlamp that I own. Also bought a Black Diamond headlamp based on reviews and it is the most uncomfortable headlamp ever. I love the Petzl headlamps for their fit, comfort and quality all at a really good price.
