Great except for front fork

We got the xxs size for our 10 yr old daughter and she loves it. Shifts great and good quality EXCEPT the fork is easily twice weight of a typical mtn bike front fork. I ended up putting on a different fork and it's greatly improved. I am always mystified as to how small kids bikes can be so heavy, or why a cheap, heavy fork would be used on a nice bike like this. The travel is low grade and feels like the thing is solid metal. Please stop using these forks!

Super solid and smooth, NEEDS BETTER CABLE MGMT

My wife and I bought two of these to use both around town and on trails. We're really pleased with how smooth and solid they are. Most recently rode them around the Virginia Creeper Trail and had no issues. They look really nice too! I have one complaint - the brake lines are zip tied onto the frame in little brackets (see the stock pic), which makes them easy to replace BUT they break really easily if you put these on the kind of car bike rack that goes into the frame. I wish they'd figured out a better way to do this. Overall really like the bikes but having loose cables when you're hitting mountain biking trails isn't safe. They get loose and could get caught on things. We lost two on just one bike on one car ride. This is in comparison to bikes in the price range these are competing with which I initially didn't like as much that have the cables running internally. 4/5 for this issue, the frames are BEEFY, love the handle bars and grips, peddles like a dream. If you buy one be sure to keep a big bag of small zip ties handy.

Exactly what I was looking for!

This is my first mountain bike, and I was nervous about ordering one online. I am an adult female less than 5ft tall so I read via article this would be an excellent purchase. I find this bike a bit heavier than I want, but it's still a decent weight and I could lift/carry it even with my small stature. I was extremely happy with how REI packaged my bike and how easy it was to put together. I immediately took it for a 3-5 mile ride to test it out and it works great. I think this is a perfect bike for someone like me who is just getting started but needs the specific height accommodations. This bike is good for people 4'7 to 5'0 tall.

12 year old loves it - shorten the handlebars REI

We bought this bike for our 4' 10" 12 year old with 27" inseam. It fits him nicely and is a great overall bike. Probably unbeatable for the price. One thing perplexed us - why are the handlebars so absurdly long? REI should fix this. We had to go back and get 1 1/2" cut off each side at REI (3 inches total). They didn't charge us and it only took 20 minutes while we waited but I would think 99% of folks who want an XXS bike will need to have the handlebars cut down. Why not just start with shorter handlebars? They're too long for me and I'm a 5' 8" with relatively long arms. The professionals at REI remarked that they were oddly long handlebars.

Reliable and fun bike

I have had this bike for over three years now. I took it once for a tube-up but otherwise have not done any maintenance other than living the chain here and there. I ride with people on $7000 bikes and the only advantage they clearly have is dropper posts and rear suspension. I ride medium skill level trails and am really impressed with the performance and durability of this bike.

Great entry level hard tail for the price!!

I have been riding this bike for a year now, with NO previous mountain bike experience. My husband was getting into the sport and I wanted to see if I would also enjoy it. I have learned to LOVE mountain biking and this bike is more than capable. It hits greens, blues and the occasional black with ease. The brakes really stop the bike, the 26 inch wheels are super maneuverable, and it climbs like a champ. For the price this is a really solid choice for somebody thinking about getting into the sport, but not willing to spend 2k+.I would 100% get a dropper post if you are hitting some bigger obstacles, and 100% upgrade the tires. The fork is a bit heavy, but I left it as is. Overall I love my bike, and it has gotten me to the point where I know what type of rider I am and what the best full suspension bike I will invest in.

Comfortable from the start

Comfortable from the start! I haven’t been in a bike for years and bought this one to take my passion for cycling outdoors. I was surprised by this bike. It fit my needs and I great starter bike for anyone looking to reacquaint themselves. I mostly ride paved trails but have had to up bridges, through sand, and grass areas and never had a problem. As mentioned, this bike has been comfortable from the first ride.

Great with one complaint.

I’m 10 I got this bike for my birthday. I like this bike a lot because it is really easy to sift the gears and it works really nice. I would give the bike 5 stars but the place to put your water bottle is too small. Over all it has been fun to ride
