A great price for a great value! I got this for a camping trip in Leelanau MI with my wife for our summer trip. We stayed closer to the beach and it was fantastic. Pros: you get so much with this bundle. The pads were comfortable (only sleeping pads I have used however), and the bags were a great rating. Kept us warm (summer, but rainy). Cons: there is only a small window on the front flap of this tent. The sides of the tent are nearly all mesh, so if you want privacy, you have to use the rain fly. there is no tarp that REI sells that will fit this tent (so I had to purchase one from the hardware store.) Final thoughts: I'm glad I purchased this, and would have purchased it again if I were to be in the same position. I don't camp enough to need 'better' gear and I am a car camper so I don't need lightweight gear. When it comes time to 'upgrade' in the future (probably due to a good sale / clearance) I will keep my gear so that I can bring friends camping for their first time.
My husband and I bought this bundle when we went camping for the first time. The tent was spacious. We were able to have the sleeping bags on one side of the tent and our clothes and gear on the other. It was about 50 degrees at night where we were camping. We were concerned because the sleeping bags felt so thin and we didnt bring any extra blankets, but they were so warm and cozy. We were also concerned about the thinness of the sleeping pads, but honestly, they were pretty comfortable and seemed to radiate our body heat back. I slept so well and didn't wake up cold or with any aches or pains. I don't think we could have gotten better gear for the price.
Kayaked to an island on the Atlantic with this tent. Fit in kayak easily and took maybe a half hour tops to set up. That night there was a huge storm that would have been awful in any structure. The tent was staked into sand and at one point we were floating on our own little pond but the tent stayed staked down and remained completely waterproof. The storm lasted for several hours with heavy wind, rain, thunder, and lightning but not a drop of water got in that tent. I still hate camping, but this tent saved our butts on an island with no other options. If I ever went camping again this is the only tent i would trust.
Being a father approaching 50, crawling on my hands and knees to enter a tent is not desirable. So when this Kelty tent arrived I was pleasantly surprised to find it was almost 5 feet tall and very spacious. Two walls are screened providing a cross breeze through the tent, even with the rainfly. Not to mention the deal of a price, under $300 for the bundle of two sleeping bags with two sleeping pads and the tent.
We were skeptical at first because of the mixed reviews, but - frankly - I could not be happier with this purchase. A tent, two good sleeping bags, and easy to blow-up mats. We have gotten so much use out of this tent in such a limited amount of time. During our most recent camping experience, there was a fairly significant amount of rain and we experienced absolutely no leaking. This is not the type of tent that you would bring on a cycle only trip, since it is a bit heavier, but we found that it was fine for a canoe camping trip in which we had to travel by canoe to our spot.
This bundle is a good value for the price. The tent is very easy and quick to set up. The biggest negative is the zipper: it constantly gets caught in the fabric. The sleeping bags and pads are alright for the casual camper, but I'd say the pads are the most basic usuable pads. All of that said: This is a good value for a casual camper who wants an all in one starter kit, and doesn't plan to camp any longer than one or two nights (weekend camping) a couple of times per year. Any more than that you will definitely want to upgrade your kit. 4 stars because of everything you get for $199. If it were $299, I'd say 3 stars.
Four person with gear, likely not! But two people with a dog, definitely. The sleeping bags are slightly thin, if you are really going to 30 degrees, you might need a liner or some long johns. The quality of the tent is suitable, although definitely not top of the line. It’s perfect for car camping or where you won’t be bringing your gear very far. The packaging for the gear isn’t self contained (think elastic rings that could be lost and rubber bands) but you could bring your own backup cordage. I haven’t tried it in the rain, although I hope to not have to! I think for the price this is a pretty sweet beginner set.
The tent is spacious, and holds up extremely well in the rain. I am not an experienced camper, so I was not expecting this tent to actually keep me dry. The sleeping pads are not amazing, but they get the job done. The sleeping bag also did not keep me warm in mid 50's rainy conditions overnight. The netting is very thin and I am sure I ripped a small amount of it when I was packing up my campsite.. not looking forward to all the bugs I will get in it now. There's a lot I would change about this tent and set, but really for the price point and for a beginner I still think its a great deal.
This is what the poles look like when you’ve replaced all the shock cords with new 2.5mm cord. You’ll want to do this because the 1/16” stock cord is very thin and gets frayed easily. I used a paracord seller on the Am****.com site. I ordered 50’ and had about 10’ left. 2.5mm is the thickest that will fit.
Just took this on its inaugural trip and it's great for the price! Tent: Great tent for the price and love the colors. Mesh everywhere on the top and we like others had a small hole in our mesh that we patched with superglue before taking it out. With the rain fly on, there's no air flow as the only mesh that's exposed is the very small hole on the top part of the door, though I suspect this helps with keeping warm at night. Be careful while zipping and unzipping the door, it's very easy to get fabric caught in the zipper and then get the zipper stuck. Easy to set up. Does need a tarp purchased separately as no footprint exists (we used a 10' x 8' tarp which worked well). Ground pads: thicker than most ground pads. Probably the best quality part of the kit. Sleeping bags: we were able to zip ours together to create a double sleeping bag which helped with staying warm overnight. They run on the thinner side but are adequate for warmer weather (temps got to a low of about 40 overnight). Sleeping bags fit me (5'4" 120 lbs) and my partner (5'11" 185 lbs) comfortably. Didn't get great photos of the tent because we were having such a fun trip.
