Broke these in by hiking 30 miles over several days at Big Bend National Park in mid-November
I have had these boots for two weeks and they are excellent. I hike rugged terrain, very steep and rocky, and was having trouble with arthritis pain in one foot when I wore hiking shoes with softer soles. These soles are hard and the rocky, uneven terrain doesn't bother my feet. Also, the Vibram soles are quite grippy and I do not slip on the smooth rocky surfaces that I often come across. Today I had to walk through a shallow stream and there were no leaks. In the past I have worn boots with two pairs of socks, so my dress shoe size is US size 9.5 but I wore 10.5 hiking boots. This time around I went with blister resist socks and size 10 boots and I have no problems with pain on several 10 km hikes. For my purposes (rugged day hikes) these boots work very well.
I have been a big fan of Lowa boots for a few years now. Most recently I've had 2 pairs of Renegade GTX mids that I ran into the ground. When my last pair started to wear out I decided to take a chance on these, and I'm glad I did. Had these for nearly 2 years and put quite a few miles on them in all sorts of terrain, from moving furniture in the city to backpacking trips in all seasons. Ankle support is quite good and the ability to lace differently throughout the day to change the fit of the boot is great. Makes things much more comfortable as the miles tick away. My feet are a bit wide but the 9.5s fit me well. Wish they had a bit more arch support but I have very high arches so the problem is really more on my end than with the boots.
Very supportive and comfortable. Rebuildable if you’re into that. Made in Germany. Tread has good grip, but does pick up rocks. Seems to have good tread hardiness. Shows minimal wear after quite a bit of pavement. As typical for Lowa, lacing customizability is awesome. You can make these as tight or loose as you like, in different areas of foot. Their lacing hardware is the best.
Very happy with these. Stiff enough for good support, but flexible and comfortable during long days. Would buy again without hesitation.
After two long city walks and one long day of hiking on a particularly rocky part of the PCT, I love these. They're even better on the downhills and uphills than they are on the flats. Very solid. Everybody's feet are unique, of course, but the fit of these were just right for me.
