Smith  Mirage MIPS Snow Helmet - Women's

Not the worst helmet, but for the price (even though it's on the low end for Smith helmets) I was pretty disappointed. Overall it's pretty good, but where it falls way short of slightly more expensive options is in the earpads/overall ear area. Mine was suuuuper uncomfortable and painful on my left ear no matter how I adjusted it, and I ended up having to disconnect the ear pads and rip out the foam insert that is glued inside the earpads so I could avoid getting a migraine from wearing this thing. Part 2 of why the ear design sucks is the compatibility with audio inserts (in my case Outdoor Tech wireless chips, i.e. pretty dang common audio inserts). The helmet is said to be compatible with Outdoor Tech audio chips (on REI product description as well as the one on Smith's website) and it technically is I guess...but it is NOT easy to insert the chips, and the way the adjustor connected to the BOA at the back of the helmet is designed, you also run the risk of that piece just totally breaking if you try to insert the chips...even inserting them the "correct" way. Spoiler alert, my helmet broke doing just this. Seems like a design failure on Smith's part for sure. I couldn't easily find directions from Smith on how to insert the chips, and had to do some deep digging to finally figure out the process, which is really not intuitive at all. That point was particularly irritating seeing as on some of their other helmets, it's super easy to insert audio, so really don't understand the disconnect with this model. All in all, if you want a safe helmet (this has MIPS so yay) that's pretty basic, this isn't the worst. Might be uncomfortable or painful, and not easy to take out the extra foam padding, but honestly it'll do the job. But really if you want something that's good for using audio inserts, spring for the Smith Vantage that has zippered ear flaps or something similar...it's significantly easier if you're using an audio system, and also the helmet probably won't break when you try to use it for one of its advertised features. Mine broke just outside REI's year return policy and Smith won't cover this issue, so I'm really wishing I paid $100 more to get a comfortable helmet that actually works as advertised...

I haven't used this yet since the mountains haven't opened, but it was very comfy and soft when I tried on in store. Also, it IS audio compatible, just a little hard to figure out. You have to take that chin strap out of the elastic band on the outside of the ear flap then pop the ear flap out of the helmet. The ear flap is attached to a piece of plastic that pops in and out. Then you open the velcro flap at the base of the ear flap to pop your speaker inside. it doesn't look like regular velcro, but it is the same type as the chin strap- a rough teethy texture that pulls regular fiber cloth. Then you do the same with the other ear flap and that middle flap in the back of the helmet. One downside is I don't like the dial to tighten. It is a little harder to turn than the kind on most other helmets. You have to grip the whole tiny knob and turn, you can't just flick across the bottom. Giving 4 stars bc I have not actually used it to go snowboarding.

Helmet fits well and is comfortable and allows me to hear sounds around me. Good ventilation when I want it. Holds goggles well. Have used for 3-4 seasons. Still in good condition.

I bought this helmet after getting a concussion from falling while skiing in a cheap rental helmet. I fell again about a month later and was afraid it was another concussion, but was in the clear after two days and no concussion symptoms. I highly recommend the MIPS technology to protect yourself from concussions.

The fuzzy lining inside makes you want to wear this helmet and it's so light that I hardly notice it's on. I have a very small head and the Small size is fine for me.

After two wears the goggle clip became loose and I lost my favorite goggles after they fell out

This helmet was an upgrade from an older oddly fitting helmet I previously had. I love how well it adapts to my Smith googles and it's comfortable, warm, & soft inside. I love the matte finish, color, & ability to open the vents too.

I loved this helmet because the MIPS, the soft lining, comfort, vents, the look etc but the goggle clip on the back was defective I think and my very expensive goggles fell off multiple times! For $140 helmet I expect a better more secure goggle clip rather than a cheap plastic part that lets goggles slide off. Ended up retuning this helmet and upgraded to the Smith Liberty helmet which has a secure goggle clip.

I bought this for my girlfriend. She loves it. In her words: "I don't even know I have the helmet on. The padding inside is so comfortable and the helmet fits like a glove with the adjusting system. The ear pads and the liner are warm enough that no hat is necessary when the temperature is over 20 degrees. The helmet is extremely light and I truly forget I have it on. Fabulous value." She got it in the purple color which looks exactly like the picture.
