Good product in dry conditions
Echoing other reviews, don’t use this in the rain. We didn’t anticipate rain during our weekend on the mountain and used this to transport our snowboards. It was sturdy and the load felt secure. However, on the way back home it rained all day and the straps soaked through into the car and started dripping all over the seats. It also left massive water stains on my headliner that I haven’t been able to remove. Not sure why Yakima didn’t think it smart to put some sort of water proof coating or sleeve on this. I’d only recommend this in dry conditions unless you want to ruin your interior.
Use it when you need it
This most affordable roof rack is a great product. It fits any car - and isn’t permanent. It’s great to just have the roof rack for when I need it or loan it to a friend. Very attractive and durable. I highly recommend it.
It's a winner
Rock steady; doesn't make much, if any, wind noise at highway speeds; not too expensive
Ok to use in a pinch
Bought this as a last minute solution for a road trip to Southern California so I could travel with a surfboard. The good news it that the racks were fairly easy to setup and the board felt secure the entire trip. There was also very minimal wind noise. Unfortunately there are a couple downfalls — the straps buckle together inside the vehicle and create a problem for your head space. I found myself dodging the straps throughout the drive. They also are not water tight. We had one rainy morning where some drips came through and water soaked my car’s headliner above the door frame. Lastly, the racks definitely scuffed up the exterior paint on my car. Maybe I could have wiped my car down more thoroughly before we strapped them in each time but that was a bummer. It’s not horrible but it is noticeable. Overall, these racks were inexpensive and got the job done, but at a cost. You get what you pay for, I guess.
Buckles fell apart literally after in a year
Buckles fell apart in a year after only being used 2 times and being stored in my vehicle. Rei would not refund my money.
Hauls 2 pairs wide skis nicely
For $150 I was not expecting this rack to work as well as it does. I did however have to buy 2 tie down straps in order to thread them through the racks provided loops and over my 115 wide skis and my son’s 100 wide skis and then cinch them down tight. But our 2 pairs of skis are secure now on top of the car while the rest of the kids skis go in the trunk. Really happy saving so much money buying this non fixed, lightweight, low profile rack.
Maybe good if you're in a pinch
These did not work well for our vehicle as the straps that go along the ceiling of the inside of the car from window to window came down too far and we hit our heads on it. Not very convenient.
Good product.
Very convenient. A bit difficult to figure out the straps at first. Straps are very long.
