great for trail and road riding
These are one of the best quality shorts I've owned; after a year of using them they haven't pilled from either using or washing them. The only odd thing about them is that I have a 34" waist, so I ordered a medium, they're a bit too large, I have them adjusted as tight as they'll get but they still want to slide down a bit, so I have to keep pulling them up a bit when riding; so for that one reason I had to take a star off. Otherwise they are a very well build short and using quality fabric and zippers; they also look nicer than the vast majority of shorts, so nice you could easily wear them around town and no one would think they are cycling shorts.
Zoic Cycling Shorts manufacturing defect
The liner on these shorts had the Chamois pad missaligned. The pad is sewn to the liner way too far back and high in the liner. As a result when you sit on the bike seat you are only sitting on the front narrow portion of the pad. The big soft bulky portion of the pad is located way up your lower back. I also measured the pad location with four other brands of cycling shorts I own. This also verified that the Zoic liner is defective and the pad is missaligned on the liner. I was able to return the shorts to Zoic, but they made me pay for shipping.
liner is garbage, shorts rock
I bought these a few weeks ago. The shorts themselves are great. They fit very well, function flawlessly and comfortably all day. The liners, however, are literally trash. I threw them in my scrap fabric diy bin. They are misshapen, huge and fit like you have a massive pant load sitting in there. You could actually wear a diaper and still have a bit of room to spare. Not something you want in a liner short. I got the size small and the liners fit like a large. Ridiculous. Really bad. Love the shorts though.
Shorts very good but liner is terrible
The shorts fit well and are of good material. Design and cut are good. BUT, the liner is useless. It seems to be cut for someone with an extremely large and protruding buttocks as it literally hangs off of the body and feels like a bulky pad is protruding outward. I would love the shorts by themselves, but not worth buying the shorts+liner. Returning it to REI - disappointed that I have to pay return shipment for such an odd product. I have to question validity of online reviews saying this thing's great.
Nice, light and airy
Have been looking for a while, trying to find shorts which don't fit like baggy capris. Finally a short for short people, who prefer their biking shorts to end above the knee. Fabric is tough, yet quite thin and light, ideal for hot summer rides. Liner is OK, the front side of chamois could go an inch or two higher, but for the money I paid for the beige shorts ($53), just can't complain - got a great pair of shorts and a liner. Shorts have many useful pockets, most of them with zippers to keep stuff securely in. Stretchy fabric and elastic gussets make for a comfy, non-restrictive fit. Waistband adjustment is great, added velcro by the snap closure is a nice touch, preventing the "blowouts" at inopportune moments. Fit true to size, 34" waist, size L fits just right. They look good enough to walk around in or hike without the liner. Overall, a winner...
These shorts should have a LATEX warning on it!
These are great looking shorts, fit well, and are comfortable. However there should be a huge warning on them that the waistband contains latex. It has been a long time since I encountered any type of underwear that contains latex. However, I broke out in a complete rash around my mid section after wearing for just 1 hour. I was really hoping that it wasn't the case, so once healed, I tried them again and can confirm that these pants were the cause of the outbreak. Also disappointed in REI for only refunding $16 of the purchase price.
Best Shorts I have found for long distance Touring
I have purchased more than a few shorts to see what is best for long distance touring and the Zoic Ether is the first I have found that not only is well designed for fit but well designed to carry a few extras like wallet, cellphone, map, keys,... without them interfering with the cycling. The essential lining is also the best liner I have found so that you feel like wanting to ride a hundred miles in a day. If this is not enough to sway you, the final extra is how easy they are to wash and dry for another day of cycling when you are on the road. The only caveat that is important to note is Zoic's sizing chart. I usually wear a medium but a medium in another short is a large for Zoic. They tell you that so you won't be surprised when you get them home but I like many others don't always read the sizing chart which couldn't be more explicit.
Not Quite.
I purchased these Zoic shorts because I wanted to try their padded liner, and I prefer a shorter length inseam - 9" with these. The outer shorts were a perfect fit and the pockets were in the right spot and deep enough. The liner didn't work out so well. The padding was sufficiently thick enough for longer rides, but the whole sewn-in chamois was way off. My sit-bones missed the padding by a couple of inches. The chamois was off-center and crooked. I had to return them.
not made to last
i've had these less than a year and the fly zipper already failed and the seam of the elastic in the liner is already open. they're not made to stand up to even the casual occasional riding i do apparently
Enjoying these, save small details
I really like these shorts. I use them without the liner, with my bib tights under. I appreciate the short option for use with my tights, don't need the length in this case. What I wish for in these shorts is a more secure waist, the one snap button does not do the trick. The snap fails regularly and I am constantly refastening it. Fortunately the waist belt on my pack helps to keep them on and in position. Perhaps the next version should include two snaps, or a snap and a button.
