Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and Âľ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

Rivals Other Brands in Fit and Function!
I was super excited to see REI made this style of short! Having used and abused several pairs of similar designs from other brands where you pay significantly more for one pair of shorts, I can easily say these stand up to the competition with a great price tag. The fabric is super stretchy but light at the same time. Very flattering fit and all the neccesary features for a run short are there (comfort waist band, stash pocket, waist drawstring, reflective detailing, and a cut fit for a marathon and beyond. Im a trail runner and strength trainer and I would be lying if I said I didnt live in these all day and all night. ;P
Best fitting shorts
I don’t often wear shirts to workout in because I have been disappointed by the waist bands and shirts riding down from lululemon and many other top lines, however, these REI shift 3” shirts fit amazing in the waistband, no riding down or digging in to sides and the fabric and movement of material is perfect for no chafing during all sports (running, bike, Crossfit, lifting, yoga). Please make more colors like black. I bought 2 charcoal colors because love them so much. Not a fan of poppy red color. Missed out on the army green color because they sold out in Sz medium. I’m always a medium in shirts and these were perfect true to size! Please bring them back with more color options!

I absolutely love the fit of these shorts - I’ll give the dark color a 5 star but the poppy color a 1 star. The poppy color has a dark colored liner which is easily visible! If they are re-designed with a matching liner, I’ll buy them again in a heartbeat ! Also it would be great if there were more bright color options in these shorts (with matching color liners) For now...I’ll keep the dark color.
cheaper and better than other brands
Having decided it was time to give up on my tattered circa-2009 running shorts, I tried on many options from Patagonia, Brooks, Oiselle, Nike, and others...I was so pleased to find these shorts, which are less expensive and fit better than anything else I tried. Really soft, quick-drying material, comfortable waist, no extra material ballooning out at the sides, not dowdy, but I can bend over or lift my knee without worrying about my bikini wax situation. Inner lining is comfortable, cool, and doesn't ride up. They're simple and perfect! My only gripe is the pocket; there's a tiny waistband pocket, but I'd feel better putting my key in there with a zipper or at least velcro. They do run a bit big - usually I'm a small, but I'm XS in these (5'6", 118 lbs, bigger in hips than on top). Definitely would recommend, and I especially like the poppy/red color....more orange than red, but very cute.
REI Co-op 3” Shift Shorts
I absolutely love these shorts! I bought the green and loved them so much I went back and bought the orange! I have gotten so many complements from others on the style and how they fit. I am 5’10, weigh 138 pounds and I wear the XS. I normally wear a small in shorts (and I did try on the small) but I liked the fit of the XS. There is a small pocket on the front- top right that is blended on the seam for your iPod or ID. It doesn’t zip but it fits perfect for my iPod when I am running. Great buy for sure!!!
soooo comfy!
Bought gray one for hiking in the desert of AZ! Love love the short...want to wear it everyday. Fit so well there is no rubbing or need to pull down on the lining etc. Time to go back and pick up all the other colors.
Shorts
Great shorts. Super comfy and well made. But they run a little big. I usually wear a size small, and I wear an extra-small in these shorts.

I tend to get a new pair of "exercise" shorts and wear them obsessively. These are my new favs, they are soooooo comfy and I love the olive green color. I have a slightly large booty but the Smalls fit just fine. I will admit I cut the underwear thing out of them, I hate shorts that have those but easily removed with scissors.
Perfect fit
I was so excited to find these! I’m a bit curvier and finding outdoor shorts can be harder— especially ones that aren’t hip huggers. The waist band is such a nice feature, not too tight and just the right amount. Drawstrings help as well for running and more vigorous activities. I was even a size smaller than I normally am!
