I’m 6’7” 230 lbs, 57 years old, I have a high arch and fairly wide foot. I already owned some hoka road running shoes and loved the support. I was talked into buying another top brand of trail running shoes. After a couple shorter 5k runs they were fine, but after running 10 miles, the top of my feet were in serious pain. I immediately started researching the new Stinsons and decided to try them. Best decision I’ve made in awhile. Ran the same 10 miles with absolutely zero foot issues !! Have since gone for several long runs with no problems. Just ran the Tahoe flume trail half marathon, again, no foot problems. These are big shoes , very comfortable, lots of support, good traction, very stable. I highly recommend for big guys with high arch, wide foot, who like to run in comfort !

Extremely Slippery Soles- Beware!

I bought a pair of the Hoka Stinson ATR 4 trail shoes and will be returning them because the soles are very slippery on wet surfaces. I have several major slips and almost a fall on the wet streets and sidewalks of Singapore. The last thing that I need is a titanium plate to repair a wrist fracture from a fall when wearing these shoes. One needs to be very careful with these on surfaces other than dirt or risk a serious fall and fractured wrist. The shoes seem to do ok on trails, but be very careful on pavement, tile, or wood floors with a smooth finish. My other Hokas did not have the problem that I have encountered with the Stinson ATR 4's.

The only shoe for me

I'm now on my 4th pair of Stinson's. As a 58 y/o military veteran, I have a lot of miles on me and a lot of chronic problems, including fasciopathy, bad knees and lower back problems. These are the only shoes that allow me to run. They're extremely comfortable and have good traction on any kind of trails, from dirt to wet rocks. I've looked for other options but found nothing that competes with Hoka's. While I wear them because I have mechanical issues, you'll also notice a drastic reduction in muscle fatigue and soreness. I can run flat out and my muscles feel fine the next day.

Finally! Almost as good as the originals!

I got my first pair of Hokas in 2013. I logged an unbelievable 1000 miles on those shoes. Every pairs of Hokas I have owned since then has failed to even come close with my last pair logging barely 300 miles before the mid-sole on the right shoe completely packing down and the left shoe upper coming apart from the sole. I've just finished 300 miles on these new Hokas and I'm happy to say that these are the closest to the originals yet. The shoes show no sign of breaking down and they are much roomier than the Hokas of the past couple of years. You may have to go up a half size.

A Hoka for a wide forefoot

I have put 250+ miles on the Stinson AT4 and couldn't be happier. Roomy forefoot doesn't cramp the toes and they have great cushioning for when you want a maximalist shoe. I have been using them on asphalt, gravel and mellow single track and the shoe have performed well. The lugs are not aggressive enough and the stack height (thickness of sole/ cushioning) is to great for use on technical trail for my liking but I didn't purchase them for that purpose. I used the Hoka online fit calculator and it recommended a half size larger than my usual shoe and this fit very perfectly

Like running on a cloud

Got the shoes (first pair of Hokas) to ease the burden of the long run on the feet. Rocks and roots seemed to disappear... stable ride and a comfortable fit. Had to play around with the lacing to get the heal to stop sliding and the toes to stop going numb... they do hold water. So on the hot hot runs there was a bit of sweaty sloshing around in the shoe... that's my only negative thought so far. I have about 50 miles on them and so far so good. Hills, technical, flat... all good.

Everything I wanted for running on trails.

I have had these for about 3 weeks now and they are working out so good. Very comfortable and stable when running on rocky trails. I had bruised toe nails with my other shoes and these protected them and felt no pain even though they were still bruised when running in these. I am sold!

Good update on Stinson model

With many miles on the orginal Stinson trail shoe, it was time for a replacement. The ATR 3 has a narrow toe box which doesn't work for me, so the modifications Hoka made to the Stinson ATR 4 were welcome. Elsewhere I saw comments that the new version tended to be shorter than previously for a given size. I'm normally a size 9 and ordered a 9.5 which has been the correct choice. Length fit of the 9.5 is very good. The new design has a rather wide toe box -- almost like an Altra. This definitely allows the toes to spread out more compared to conventional forefoot geometry in running shoes. The thick rocker soles which typify Hoka shoes work well on the Stinson. They provide a very smooth stance phase despite relatively little flexing of the sole. I appreciate this as I've got stiffening of the big toe joints which get irritated in flexible running shoes. Hokas solve that problem. My couple weeks in these Stinson ATR 4 shoes have been mainly fast trail hiking with only a little running. They required little break-in and easily protect feet from sharp rocks. The very thick soles elevate the foot considerably, so surfaces with substantial side to side slant can slide the foot toward the downhill side inside the shoe. But one adapts to this without much problem -- the shoes don't feel unstable on uneven terrain. These are definitely trail shoes that I will buy again. I also use the Hoka Tor Ultra high top hiking boots (which are great but are heavier and hotter than the Stinsons).

Comfortable shoe!

Comfortable shoe! I got them to help with back pain, and it's been like walking on clouds. I'm on my feet all day, and I wear them all day long, everyday. My feet were a bit sore at the end of the day for the first week while they got used to the soles, but now they feel great, even at the end of the day and I've had no back pain at all! The other trail runners they make were a little tighter in the box of the shoe, but these seemed a bit more roomy there.

Improved upon an already great shoe

I've been running on the Stinson 3 for the last 600 miles or so and love them. It was time for a refresh and the Stinson 4 was the natural choice. The larger toe box is fantastic. I literally took these out of the box and went on an 18 mile run (flat) and my feet felt great throughout the run and at the end. I'm looking forward to hitting the trails this weekend. I wear a 9.5 in sheet shoes, so the 10 fit perfectly (I do like a slightly thicker sock, though).
