I had only had really cheap binoculars before these, so I was pretty impressed at first. Only comparing them to what else was in stock at the store, I thought these really provided excellent optical quality for the price -- no complaints there. My satisfaction continued into the field, until a tiny ball bearing came out of the eyepiece adjustment mechanism, preventing the eyepiece from maintaining any fixed position. If you don't plan on taking binoculars into the field, and you plan to be exceptionally gentile, these might work for you. I plan to return these for a more robust pair.
We love these binocs for hiking- good magnification, clear viewing and reasonably light to carry
