Camping with Sunshade (but used in the rain)
Used this on our camping trip on late of april 2019 for the rain and it did a pretty good job. Had high winds during that day and just needed to stake it out on all 3 sides 2x on each side and it did great. Packability is excellent since it becomes a backpack + it already comes with a side wall which is pretty convenient if you need to use it
Exceeded expectation! Great for the price
I have used this for two full summers camping in New England. I use it as a table shelter for my kitchen. Easy up and down by myself once I worked out a good technique. I am mostly car camping and it is perfect for keeping the elements out and keeping things dry. I have also pitched it over my MSR Hubba Hubba 2 in some big down pours so I could have a dry outside area.... Only after two full summers and many ups and downs are the poles getting shoddy and the seams starting to leak. I expected one full season out of it. Happy to buy another one for the up coming summer if I need to... I may just re-seal the seams and roll the dice on the poles.
Awesome coverage anywhere
I have had this for 15+ years, until it got stolen from my shed. I used it for camping set up against my tent so that there is covered space when you come out . It can cover picnic tables as well. Ive taken it to the beach. So easy to set up. One person can do it. But 2 is much faster.
Sun Shade. It should do the trick
I have only set this up in the back yard to see what it was like. I believe it will do what I am hoping. I am looking for it to be used at the beach, camping and at my Remote Control Airplane events where we are outside all day, days in a row. So instead of the heavy ez up this is like 12 pounds and doesn't take up near as much room. Plus the ez up shade moves with the sun. These half sides should protect better especially with the movable wall. Easy setup too. Looking forward to using it.
Great Design/Poor Quality
I purchased this because the design looked nice and it provides great coverage. The fiberglass poles are of poor quality as is the material which started tearing after first set up. It has been returned.
Good and bad
I've had two of these. They're very handy on the beach, but as noted in another review, the fiberglass poles are the weak link. Mine broke - twice. I assume Kelty provides these to keep the cost down, but they really should switch to aluminum poles.
Poor quality
As other reviewers have stated the poles are awful. This is the second Kelty sunshade that is being replaced, both times poles snapped. Very frustrating.
Ok, but not great
Shelter is fairly low at the edges, limiting sight and access. The fiberglass poles are horrible - heavy, rough (I got glass fiber splinters on the surface (not ends) of brand new poles) and do not give an impression of being sturdy. Set-up was OK, but took a while due to feeding the poles through the sleeves. I returned it in favor of the BigAgnes Air Shelter.
Good for sunshade
I have used this at the beach a few times, including in windy conditions. When windy, I used special sand/snow stakes I bought cheap on amazon that work better than the provided stakes. It would be nice to be able to adjust one of the sides of the the shade roof to allow for more viewing while you’re in it, because it is somewhat low.
