Great product, needs a platform
Bought this shower for my frequent trips out to villages where I work in Kenya. We used it camping this weekend to try it out. Even with the pressure pumped up as high as we thought the unit could handle, we had to bend down or squat to get water pressure from the nozzle. If the unit was hanging from a tree or maybe the roof rack of our vehicle, it would probably work fine. Still way better than using a bucket and a cup to pour over but for the price I was expecting the pressure they advertise. Returning it from Kenya is not an option, and I think it will work fine with some elevation. I will plan to hang it or support it higher on my next outing and see how that works. On the bright side, we filled it about 3/4 of the way and set it in the sun for the afternoon. The water was warm, not hot, but pleasant and we got 4 showers out of it with water left over. Id recommend it for sure. It packs up small and is efficient and would have many applications beyond showering, like hosing off the dogs or rinsing off equipment or muddy stuff depending on where you hang out! With our sever drought conditions, everything is covered in dust and Id feel bad using precious water to wash dust away but this unit would be great for that.
A great shower for camping and the third world
I'm a retired guide going to med school on a small Caribbean island, which is great until you want to take a hot shower on a cloudy day, or during the rainy season. The nemo helio LX has been great for days like that. It heats up to a pretty decent temp if there's enough sun, and if you add some water heated on the stove, it's perfect. This would be amazing for car camping trips, or trips that include a lot of dirty activities like mtn biking and climbing. The screw top makes it easy to get your hand in there to dry and clean the inside, and the auto on feature makes it like a normal shower. For home use, there's enough water for 1 fairly normal shower, or 2 water conserving showers. For camping, I'd bet you could squeeze 3 showers out of it if you were stingy with the water.
Great Versitle Product
We bought this originally for a shower and once we took it on camping trip we found it had many more practical uses. The updated features on this compared to the original product make it even better, and the rubber material is very durable. One thing I can say is that is you keep it in a warm car for an period of time you should release some if the pressure that has been pumped or it will start to leak. All in all a great product.
Out of the bag....not so much.
I just got this. High hopes for this shower.#1 hard to open, very smooth lid. You have to grit the teeth to find a grip. #2 filled with water, this thing is flippy floppy, doesn't stand up...#3 better lid may help, but no rubber gasket, so getting it closed with no water/air leakage is difficult. Threads are large but I would think a gasket would help!!! Otherwise, who knows the potential?! :) Still hoping I can make a DIY fix...
Great addition to glamping
Used this on my camping trip this weekend. I opted to get this instead of the small size because of all the changes they made and the size. It was all that they claim and more. I did shower with it once until I found out there were public showers near our campsite. It was then used to wash dishes. The large opening did make filling it very simple at the campsite water source. It is huge so trying to hold it up while filling was a challenge. The only complaint (hence the 4 stars) is the little hook for the nozzle. It doesn't seem to really fit the nozzle all that securely. Nozzle kept falling off whenever I had to move the shower or even in between uses. The nozzle fell off the holder hook all the time even when not in use. I eventually just thread the nozzle through the top handle. This is replacing my 5 gal water jug which will save more space in my car.
Best camp shower
Absolutely love this product. Used it a Coachella at the camp grounds. Held plenty of water, 3 people were able to shower with only about half of a tank filled with water to spare. Shared this with our neighbors so we both were filling it as needed. Can’t say how many showers you can get with a full tank. Recommendations: Do not transport the tank full with the built in handles. Doesn’t seem like the handles can take that kind of load, this hold A LOT of water. We used a 1 gallon water jug to top off the tank as needed. When finished using, the XL size comes in handy because the fill hole is big enough to get your hand inside and use a rag to help dry to prevent mildew. Also hold tank higher than the hose to clear the hose lines of water. Caution: The O-Ring did fall out on me fairly easily from the fill cap. It is easy to install back in but can be easy to miss if your are not paying attention. I hope this is something that can be purchased separately from NEMO.
Convenient, easy and durable
This shower is on the expensive side, however, after reading so many reviews on all other showers leaking, I went with this one in hopes of better quality. I'm so glad I did. This shower is easy to fill/empty and very easy to use. No leaking anywhere. It puts out enough pressure to clean you and your gear. I'm very pleased with this purchase and very excited to be able to take it anywhere and not having to worry about hanging it up to use. This shower will get a LOT of use all year round.
Gasket gamble
This was my main dividend purchase this year to help mitigate funkiness on long overland and car camp adventures. I had realistic expectations on the showers performance and it does its job adequately. The higher the nozzle is, the less pressure. No matter how much you pump it, at head height it is going to be a bit of a drizzled flow; but that’s to be expected. My main issue is the absolute lack of retention on the lid gasket. It’s not like it sometimes works it’s way loose, it freely falls off whenever the lid is removed. It is very thin and can be very easy to miss when it falls out (which is EVERY time you take the lid off) and can then be hard to see in the dirt or brush. I consider it a small miracle we have not lost ours yet, but it will soon be long gone despite my diligence (I have 4 kids using it). Its the kind of design flaw I’d expect/accept on a cheap knockoff costing a fraction the price of the Helio; at this price, it baffles me how it went into production with such a basic defect.
Doesn’t hold pressure
I bought one and it worked great the first couple times. Made camping great. Not just for showers but also for doing dishes. It stopped holding pressure and I returned it for a new one. Second one stopped holding pressure after one use. Returning it again.
Good product but....
Cap ring seal falls off very easy and its hard to insert it back as it jeeps falling off as you try to re-insert it back. Container is too flimsey and wobbles down to the floor unless is pressurized. The plastic stepping pump, although is made of the same sort of thick plastic does not look like it will last long as it may become punctured with ground debrey like sharp small rocks, glass, thorns, etc... The maker has the right idea but needs improvements.
