Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light and Comfortable I purchased these to supplement my heavier hiking shoes after having an ankle tendon surgically repaired. After 50 miles of use I found them comfortable and sturdy. The larger toe box and zero drop feature took a bit of time to adjust to but I followed Altra's recommended transition program and now prefer them to my hiking boots. My ankle is well supported and heal locks in tight while the front of my foot is free to move as it should. I haven't done more than 4 consecutive miles yet but I haven't felt any hotspots and doubt blisters will be an issue for extended backpacking. The front of the shoe offers plenty of protection for unintentional stubs. I'd rate them 5 stars save for the goofy lacing system. One must loosen the laces quite a bit to put them on. The metal eyelets at the top are awkward and difficult to thread. I'd prefer simple speed lace hooks as they allow for the variety of lacing patterns I use when backpacking. I'll be purchasing longer laces to make the process easier before I hit the trail for a multi-day trip.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great boots for now... I couldn't wait to buy these when I heard they were coming out. The fit great (I wear 11, and can finally buy size 11 in Altra). My only complaint is the sole starts coming off at the edges after - for me - 5 hikes of the 5-9 mile range. I am going to have to use Shoe Goo already, which is a big disappointment. Hopefully it takes. If not, I will be back to lower my stars.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not waterprooof This is a follow-up to my original review. I am dropping 2 more stars. I was walking through wet grass the other morning - not even angle high, and definitely not close to the top of the shoe - when my socks felt wet. Sure enough, dew had seeped into BOTH shoes. The insides were soaked, my socks were soaked. The top neoprene shell seems very brittle. HIGHLY disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbeatable for light long-distance adventures These boots are awesome. The functionality, comfort, and how light they are really nails the balance for going long distances with comfortable feet. Unbelievably comfortable. The "foot shape" is perfect, and I love the "zero drop" after getting used to it. Great breathability with waterproofing that performs well. Great flexibility balanced with a sole design that's rigid enough for rugged rocky trails. I have taken them on a 50 mile Grand Canyon R2R2R fastpacking trek in April which involved rocky abrasive desert conditions and miles of post-holing through snow. I finished with dry feet and zero blisters. Mind blown. I also challenged the boots over 50 miles traversing Zion National Park in one day including hard uneven rocky trails, sand and mud for hours in the rain, and 15+ creek crossings. The boots performed wonderfully. I'm not sure I could have completed this objective in the conditions I faced with any other boot/shoe. I'm really surprised how durable they have been too. I have experienced zero serious damage after 100 miles of boot crushing adventures in these. I was told these were the top boot choice for people through-hiking the PCT and I definitely understand why. Some things to note-- -The upper part of tongue is disconnected from the boot, so the height of waterproofing is lower than on some other hiking boots. Need to keep this on mind for creek crossings. - The laces would be more convenient if longer, but are compact and out of the way if you're moving quickly and don't want snags. Easy fix if you want longer ones. - Zero drop type shoes do take time to get used to and are initially harder on your calves and Achilles. They have seemingly been very good for my legs. I'm now a believer. - For light long-distance adventures, I think these boots are unbeatable. When I need a bomber, rock solid boot for rough terrain with a heavy pack, I would still go with my Asolo TPS 520 GV Evos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hiking is a breeze In preparation for my El Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage I have tried several hiking boots but none fit as well as the Altra lone Peak 3.0. These boots were made for walking.

I have the Altra Olympus 2.0. I normally wear a size 10 but in the Olympus I had to go up to an 11.5. Do these size the same as the Olympus? Thank you.

Asked by: HBLDenali
These do fit similarly to the Olympus. We recommend ordering the same size you have ordered in other Altra shoes. For most people, that is about half a size up from your normal shoe size.

Are they actually waterproof? If I stand in a 2-3 inch water puddle will my feet stay dry? Some manufacturers say waterproof because the shoe is made out of some waterproof materials, this is not the same.

Asked by: DieHard
The shoe upper is constructed with NeoShell which is considered waterproof in its most basic state. Due to the natural shape and construction of this shoe it is considered water resistant only. Standing in a 2"-3" puddle will not cause your foot to get wet alone. However, movement or splashing will cause your foot to get wet and therefore this shoe is considered water resistant.
