The only do it all option
This is pretty much the only option on the market if you want to be able to climb comfortably in a full face and also descend with a helmet designed for downhill. I find it to be very comfortable and a good deal lighter than other DH or MX full face helmets. It does not feel noticeably warmer than my TLD A1 in my mind. The port in the front is big enough I can easily use my hydration pack thru. If you need one helmet to do it all, this is probably the one. Just have to get used to the questions and comments but if you want to protect your teeth (wish I would have the first time), its worth it.
Best helmet ever!
I ride my mountain bike 8 miles to work several times a week. I wanted a full face and bright helmet for the dangerous streets of Santa Barbara California. I have had multiple near misses with my previous helmet but now everyone notices me when i ride and gives me room. The helmet is very comfortable and easy to adjust with the extra padding that is supplied. I highly recommend a full face when riding on the street as you only get one set of adult teeth.
Best mtb full face helmet on the market
After reading many reviews, I decided to pull the trigger on this helmet, and couldn’t be more happy! Super light, wide range of visibility, and tons of airflow! I wouldn’t recommend any other full face helmet.
Good but not perfect.
Helmet has a lot of air flow, more than I would have thought. I shave my head and can feel the air passing though as soon as I start to move. Stopping with this on will get hot fast. Difficult to drink but a camelbak will work with it, just takes a little more effort. The helmet is good and showed up as described and my only complaint is something I knew, and you know about it if looking at it. No adjustment ring but instead you change out pads to get the proper sizing. Not a huge deal but having the adjuster like most bike helmets for your head instead of having to guess and swap out pads would be nice. Magnet latch sounded sketchy at best when I heard about it but it's fantastic. If you want to keep your teeth AND your head safe, this is a good buy.
Best Full Face for Trail Riding
It was time to retire my 8-year old Specialized full face, vented helmet, and find its replacement. I looked through several of the newest lighter weight, vented full face helmets on the market from various manufacturers. After riding with the Fox Proframe for a month, I’m happy with my decision of buying the Fox Proframe. I bought the mink white version to be more visible to cars and other riders. The white will also reflect the sun as much as possible. It is light for the additional protection and it really vents well. The magnetic, one hand release buckle is great. The visor is at a good angle and I like that it is fixed. I was able to zip-tie my light onto the back part of the visor, which made for a solid attachment point. I read a few reviews that the brow pad was inadequate and the MIPS was contacting the forehead. However, I found it to be fine. I did adjust it down a couple of mm. It is attached with velcro pads and maybe that adjustment made the difference. It is great that Fox gives you a gamut of pads with various thicknesses to help adjust the fit. I also like that all of the pads are removable so they can be washed. The whole point of the full face is for protection in an unfortunate event. The Proframe carries the ASTM downhill certification, which was one of my criteria. I also like that it doesn’t have the removable chin bar. If I’m climbing long step sections, I just strapped the helmet to my pack. My pack (Osprey Raptor, 14L) is kind of setup to carry a full face though, where the upper straps go through the bottom of the helmet and out the front. All in all, I’m stocked on this helmet.
Great Lightweight Full Face Helmet
I don't do bike parks or even super aggressive downhills. But the falls I have had are sometimes in the most innocent spots and it can happen quickly. I had thought about more face protection for some time but the helmets were just too heavy and hot. I gave the Fox Proframe a shot and it is awesome. My vision is fine. I can hear easily. I don't really notice the chin guard. And all of the vents really do keep the air flowing. I rode with it when it was about 80 degrees out. The only time that it is more noticeable is when I stop but I can easily take it off for a second. I probably sweated a little more than a regular helmet but for me the protection is worth it. The magnetic strap closure is super easy. I am about 59.5cm and the Large is spot on. I use the middle thickness pads. The sticker inside says 58 to 61cm, and that seems exactly right. It doesn't have a dial to adjust the size. But there are three different pad sizes that help fine tune the fit. This helmet really gives some added piece of mind.
Lightweight + Comfortable
Build quality is very good, as with most Fox products I've owned. This helmet has the best ventilation by far of any full-face helmet I've seen or owned for MTB. The MIPS makes it even more comfortable and it doesn't make your head itchy like standard padding can do when it rubs. Very glad I got this and recommend it for anyone wanting good protection, ventilation, oh and STYLE.
Good as it currently gets
Been riding in this for 4-6 times per week for the last 3 months and I'm loving it. I'm 5"11" and usually wear large size helmets, the proframe with the regular pads was a perfect fit for my head, better than most helmets I've worn. It is warmer than a standard half shell, but not by as much as you'd expect. I'll hang it off the bars for long fire road climbs on hot days (90F+), otherwise I wear it for the whole ride. I've ridden a few different versions of the Bell 2R and Giro Switchblade, I don't intend on going back. The proframe is my personal favorite by a long shot and the chinbar certainly feels more impact resistant than the R2. Only reason for 4 stars is this is the 1st generation and there's room for tiny improvements ...still the best option in it's niche category. Don't make the mistake of thinking it's a breathable full face, as I don't consider the protection on par with a true full face. That being said, with aggressive trail riding, it's comparatively low weight and breath-ability are just right.
Size Chart
The Proframe size chart is different than the general Fox helmet chart. S = 20-1/2" to 22-1/16" M = 22-1/16" to 22-13/16" L = 22-13/16" to 24" XL = 24" to 25-3/16"
Feels like a regular helmet
This thing is SO vented. I got it for a winter enduro race, but I wanted something that was light enough to wear in the summer heat too for next year. This is perfect! Less expensive than the TLD Stage full face, but equally as light and comfortable. I tried on all kinds of helmets and don't regret going with this one!
