I really like the idea/shape/size/function of this tent, however the poles broke twice over two uses. One of the pole connectors broke the first time we used it, which was reparable and therefore mostly forgivable (although annoying for the price), then on the second use one of the fiberglass poles snapped in a completely different place. Unfortunately, this tent has to go back. Too bad, because it was a great option for us tall car campers!
First, this is not a tent for backpacking. For camping at campsites it's perfect. Love the screen roof--truly sleeping under stars. The height is great-I'm 6'2" and can stand up near front door. No screened windows down low--could be an issue in the heat.
We had high hopes for this tent, as Kelty has served us well in the past. However, from the very first camping trip, this tent was less than stellar. Not sure if it's the design or manufacturing process, but once erected, the poles exert far too much force on the fabric, making it near impossible to open/close the door zipper. Finally, on our 3rd or 4th outing, the zipper ripped. We made due by using several clips to keep the door somewhat closed. As always, REI was fantastic and accepted the return without any push-back.
I bought this at the REI Garage Sale and it came with a snapped pole. IT took a month plus to get Kelty to replace the pole. As soon as we started to assemble the tent, another part literally snapped, one of the pole holders making the tent useless. I think it's a poorly made product, and I would waste my money or time with it. My six year old daughter literally cried when she saw it snap.
So far I have not had any issues with damaged poles as some other reviewers have mentioned. I am very pleased with the size and form factor of this tent and will update my review if I encounter any issues. So far it is absolutely perfect for me.
Have had this tent for about 5 years now. We have had to replace the back pole. Other than that it has held up well in wind and rain. We’ve used it as our family car camping tent all over the western states and Canada. Probably have about 50 nights in it. Drawback is it takes two people to put up but it is a 4 person tent so you’d likely be with others. The design is “funky” but once you get the hang of putting it up it’s quite simple. The back poll is definitely a weak point of this tent. It cracked so we duct taped it and it held up for the rest of our week (4 more days). The ability to stand up in it is a trade off we accept. Overall we’ve been happy with it. Probably is a better tent for someone that camps a lot and doesn’t mind the quirky nature of the design. If you’re an experienced camper you’ll appreciate the inner space it provides as well as the rain and wind resistance.
Easy to set up and it comes with waterproof top. Great for stargazing in the country. It’s great for 3 seasons - not include winter time. Roomy for 4 tall people.
