Well made but not a 30 degree bag

I bought this bag to replace a trusty Sierra designs bag that was getting worn. I wanted a lighter weight, rectangular bag for summer car camping and river trips. This bag fits those two criteria. It’s well made. a little slippery but I add flannel or cotton sheets to the mix, which feels better on the skin. I think the 30 degree rating is way off base. I used this bag on a couple of recent Lassen trips where the temp dropped into the high 40s and I froze. The bag felt more like a blanket than a sleeping bag. The drawstring helped, as did wearing a hat and layers. But putting this into my flatland camping pile for warm summer nights and looking for a heftier mid-temp bag.

i finally have a nice sleeping bag!

after freezing the last couple times i went camping, i figured it was time to invest in a proper sleeping bag. after reading many reviews of different types of bags and my usual style of camping. i decided that a rectangular shape was gone be better for me. i like the stash pocket and how it can zip down both sides giving the feel of a normal blanket. i love how easy it is to pack into its storage bag, and then compress to half that size for travel. i have yet to use it outdoors, but already im trusting itll work nicer than my previous bags. p.s. i love the colour too, and how the fabric isnt so plasticy as my previous bags.

Warm and Snuggly

My husband and I went camping in the North Ga mountains during March. It was in the low 40’s at night and this kept me comfy all night. I’m 5’2” and about 200 pounds and this sack fit my 40 pound Carolina Dog and me perfectly. I bought a previous version on clearance and am very happy with the purchase. Packing up for our next trip and I realized I hadn’t reviewed this yet. If you’re a car camper, go with this. My husband bought a much nicer backpacking Marmot and was cold all night. Save your money and be snuggly.

Awesome indoors!

I bought this to use for indoor use on a regular basis. My profession requires me to place bedding for one night and then pick it up and this is a lot easier than sheets. I use it to sleep on a twin size mattress and it keeps me WARM, not to mention it is soft and the air pockets make it feel like a balloon. The average temperature I am using it in is 65*F with fans blowing on me all night. It is durable (so far), takes up a small space (carry bag can be used for stuffing it in or rolling it up) and is slippery (good for getting comfortable, I can move around and the bag won't get caught on me). HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Great sleeping bag

I loved the Siesta 30. I was worried I'd be hot as I tend to run hot in general. We went camping in Indiana in June, and I think it was about 60-65 degrees at night. Never got hot, and if it did I'd have just opened up the bottom end to get some air. It also fits in the stuff sack easily, unlike some brands you get at discount stores. I like the storage feature of the stuff sack where it has a mesh extender to allow you to let it be stored without as much compression.

well made but not warm

We bought these for our kids a couple of years ago for tent camping trips in the summer because the regular "sleepover" sleeping bags weren't warm enough. The bags are comfortable and have lots of great features (the kids liked the pocket to keep things and the soft interior), but they just weren't warm enough, not even for summer camping adventures. I thought they might be exaggerating, but when I took one of the bags on a camping trip with friends, I absolutely froze, and it wasn't even close to being 30 degrees. We almost had to leave Yosemite because my kids were so cold at night IN AUGUST. My advice is leave this bag for fun indoor adventures and invest in a zero degree bag for tent camping.

It's warm if you layer it...

I bought this bag over 5 years ago, so because it has held up well, but the loft is a little compressed I was considering one again. Those people who complain that this bag isn't warm don't understand that you have to layer sleeping gear for cold just like clothing. If you are in 30 degree temps, use a bag liner (it holds your body heat in.) When temps drop down into the 20's I use a bivy sack, too. I have been toasty in my Siesta bag down to 0, but never with the bag itself! I'm not going to buy another now because the color is ugly and my bag isn't that bad yet. I can throw a cheap blanket inside as a liner for now.

Freezing cold!

My husband and I were both very disappointed in this sleeping bag. For many years we have used our down mummy bags for backpacking and car camping. This year we decided to get sleeping bags specifically for camping, thinking we would be more comfortable having a little more room. These bags are rated at 30 degrees and it never got below 45 degrees on the three nights that we were out. We absolutely froze! Even with wool socks, long sleeve shirt and lightweight sweatpants. The second night we added extra blankets, but they just slide right off of the silky fabric. We will go back to using our down mummy bags for all of our trips, as it nearly ruined our trip because we were so cold.

So pleased with Siesta!

My favorite thing about this sleeping bag is how many problems it solves. It has a ribbon to keep the fabric from getting stuck in the zipper, extra velcro to keep the scratchy part under control when not in use, an inside pocket, the ability to unzip the bottom to get some air on one's feet, and a stuff sack that is also a storage sack with mesh for breathability. Super pleased so far.

Great price, but not suitable in the 30⁰s

I love how REI stands by their brand, so I'm going to give this bag another try when the temps reach 40⁰+ and it it fails I'll be looking for another bag. We have a camper, but have recently decided we would like to backpack as well. My husband has our tent and food system in his pack, so I'm fine with a heavier (synthetic) sleeping bag. Our first night it was 33⁰. I wore wool socks, long john bottoms, tshirt, fleece, and hat. I needed gloves and a balaclava for my face because I was freezing. I used a sleeping pad, but in these temperatures I definitely need a quilt or liner as well. The bag is big enough to roll over in which is perfect for me since I'm a side sleeper.
