Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dissapointing Seems to work ok to just start a random trip. However it when I tried a ride with a course plotted into it I ran into a lot of problems. First, it couldn't handle an "out and back" route. So, when I turned around at the midway point it kept trying to route me back to the midway point instead of home. Then while it was digesting that it periodically froze or would increase its nagging that I turn around. At one point the entire unit froze and I had to get home and read the manual for a hard reset which caused me to lose all my ride's data. While it was working it did do an ok job of alerting me on turns. But, the map is really tiny and didn't have a lot of detail and I'm not sure how helpful it would have been if I'd gotten lost and tried to navigate my way out of my lostness with it. I don't think any of this is operator error but if it was it is still an incredibly disappointing user experience to have to troubleshoot technology while on a ride instead of that technology enhancing/assisting the ride. I bought this product because my navigation app on my phone would drain my battery and almost never make it through the ride. I almost think sticking with my phone and buying a portable battery charger might be a better option.

how much memory in this thing? isn't mentioned in the spec. mentions preloaded maps. does that come with it (included with the unit) or something you have to purchase and load before you go out? how much memory does that eat up?

Asked by: Utah CJ
16 GB of internal storage, no SD slot like the 1000. Not sure on map details but I am sure you could get that from the Garmin site. I hear this unit is pretty slick. Ive ridden with a few riders that have them and they love it. This will be a purchase of mine when I have the free cash. Wish I could get now.

how does the accident detection work? is there any kind of delay or over ride in case you just stop short and ambulance isn't needed?

Asked by: Utah CJ
The accelerometer has algorithms that pick up a wreck or similar issue. There is a screen that immediately pops up that you can touch to dismiss any signal getting sent to your emergency contact.
