Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Designed I was most impressed with this lamp due to the way it turns on and the different modes. On other lamps I have had, they are on all bright or not and then you have to hold the switch down to dim the light. This lamp had three modes - the first press gives you a low level that is actually just about perfect inside a tent. The second press turns on to a much brighter light if you really need to see inside a tent or just looking around outside. Then the third press puts out an impressive 280 lumens. Very bright and you can really see when it is dark! Will be very interested to try out the rechargeable batteries and then carrying 3 extra AAA batteries is no big deal since I do that anyway.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An almost perfect headlamp It was my intention to purchase a Petzel Pixa 2 Pro Headlamp, but the store was out of them at the time. I was familiar with that model, since my girlfriend and her sister owned them. Ordering one was not an option at the time, since we were leaving for Arizona next day, to backpack the Tonto Trail in the Grand Canyon NP. I chose to purchase a Petzel Actic headlamp instead. Actic is an excellent product, with one exception. The plunger type switch/selector is troublesome and sometimes unresponsive when wearing gloves. Upon our return from the trip, I'll be purchasing a Pixa 2 Pro with, at least in my opinion, a more reliable side knob switch/selector. Happy trekking everyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Petzls have never let me down I used this Petzl while hunting as it has strong enough output to really see where I am going in the woods at 04:00 and more importantly to see at some distance what else is out there. I then took it on a climb of Mt Kilimanjaro and once again on the day of the final ascebt it did not disappoint as it ran strong on a fresh set of batteries for 5 hours in the dark making sure that I could see my footing as we scaled a rock wall and picked our way through boulders and along ledges at night.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super bright I was using a tikka plus and saw this new one that just came out. The actor is super bright. It lights up my hikes I've also used it as a back up for Mtn biking at night. I also like how you can buy a regarable battery pack for it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have seen the light After using one of these bad boys to fix some wiring on my dads camping trailer one trip I knew I had to get one. After using it in attics at work, to put on and take off snow chains, on camping trips in late October to cook, and to just see in the dark I know I will never go back to a hand held flashlight. With the triple brightness settings I can adjust the light to my visability needs. Ditch the flashlight and get a actik headlamp!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Midnight hiking companion Took this on a late evening hike up a mountain with this lamp and it made the path so clear that even other people behind me figured it was good enough for them to be able to see where they went. Super bright and great quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Head Light After much research, I went to REI ready to purchase another light however, during my discussion with an associate, I was introduced to this light. It was a new product for REI and after running through its specs and operation, this light was the winner. Having used it around camp a few times, I am only more impressed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Battery life, no good. I do a bit of spelunking. When I read the package, it says "up to 80 hours on high"... i was very sceptical but thought I would give it a try. 2 hours underground & I was changing my batteries. Duracell's 2 more hours, battery change again. Energizer's 2 hours is a far cry from 80 hours! Not sure if I got a defective unit, but completely unsatisfied. Petzl, you need to make improvements to keep up with your packaging claims. REI rocks. They took the headlamp back after I explained.

He mentions that this headlamp is "The start of the Performance Series" however I went to Petzl's website and it is not listed under the Performance Series. I researched this to see if it had the Constant Lighting feature. Does this support CL Technology?

Asked by: sterling
This headlamp is part of Petzl's Standard Lighting series, it does not have the Constant Lighting technology.

Is the headband easily removable? I have a Petzl that the plastic backing is molded to make it easy to take of the headband; convenient for swapping it on to a bike helmet with a different strap and then easily switching back.

Asked by: eshutt

I have a Petzl Ractik and it is perfect for me. However, I lost the directions and it has switched to the flashing red instead of the constant white which is what I use. I don't know how to change it back to the white. thank you
