Saved My Brain!
Bought this one at the beginning of this riding season. Decided I wanted the MIPS lid, and this one fit much better than the others in the store (a Smith and POC). Last night I took a pretty significant digger that involved smashing my head into a boulder. While it certainly rung my bell, I know it would have been far worse without an adequate helmet. This one had a short life (fewer than a dozen rides), but better it than me!
Saved my noggen
Just got this helmet a few months back, glad I did. Went down hard yesterday and lost consciousness for a moment and blacked out for about 45 minutes. Ended up in the ER with a major concussion and some deep cuts all over. The lower back part of the helmet cracked and split up a ways, but it did it's job. If I had less coverage over the base of my skull near the occipital bone I would have more than likely shattered my skull. The range of coverage this helmet has is a real life saver. Now that this one is retired, you can bet that I will replace it with the exact same model.
Lovin' it so far
Got my first 2 rides on the new lid this past weekend and really like it. I have a huge head and the large still fits me, barely. Retention system is secure and easy to adjust single handed, with a full glove on. Ventilation seems good but will wait until Florida summer for a final report. Helmet is fairly light, especially given its full coverage, and materials are great. Pad material is noticably higher quality than previous helmets at this price point. At $100 with MIPS this looks to be the helmet to beat.
MIPS is a significant step up in safety
I love this helmet. Had always used Giro Xen in the past, and when it cracked, I looked at Giro again. The MIPS technology makes for a better fitting helmet, and this one fits well. It is snug and with the RocLoc in the back, it can be adjusted to fit if you need to wear a head band, or other type of head covering. I've used it a lot over the past week in the hot Georgia summer, and do not have a problem with the cooling it provides. It does not feel like I am baking my brain in the heat. I like this one so much, I will probably pony up the extra money to get a MIPS road helmet when the time comes.
Green is yellow!
Helmet is great, no complaints whatsoever - hard to beat for the price. However, beware if you're interested in the lime green color that it looks nothing like the picture. It's more like a highlighter yellow with maybe a hint of green. Do a google image search and find real photos and you'll get a better sense of the colour. If you're looking for neon yellow, you're set, but if you're looking for green...REI of course is awesome with returns so I just sent it back and exchanged for the orange.
Comfortable helmet for mountain biking
This helmet breathes well and is very comfortable. I like the adjustable hit system that clamps down to give a secure fit. The back of the helmet shell also extends further down your head than most other competitors which adds to extra protection. As an intermediate mountain biker, I have no complaints about this helmet and would recommend to others.
A true lifesaver
My boyfriend is a downhill maniac. Any time he goes out he takes his trusty giro helmet with him. He is always telling me what an amazing helmet it is because i dont wear a helmet since i spwnd so much time on my hair. Last week i was going out with some friends and borrowed my bfs bike. Since his chronicle helmet was hanging there on the bars I figured i would just wear it and see what the hype is all about. The fit was steller and it adjusted to my head perfectly. Not even a mile from home i hit some gravel. Every thing happened so fast all I remember hearing is a loud crack. As i sat up my friends came over to see if i was alive ... apparently my head hit pretty hard as was evident by the damage to the side of the helmet. We were all amazed i was okay as i NEVER wear a helmet. When i went to buy a replacement helmet i was reading the reviews and am shocked at how many lives have been saved by this helmet. Rest assured i will be wearing a helmet from now on to
Found the right bicycle helmet
Well, it took me a while but I finally found the black Giro Chronicle MIPS Bike helmet on line. I was able to find and try on the Green one at the Arcadia store which enabled me to ascertain the correct fit. I have been especially impressed with the way it protects the back of the head. Excellent choice and product.
Great Helmet
I just finished a couple days of riding at Mammoth Mountain Bike Park, helmet worked great. Cool and comfortable, also easy to adjust.
Improvement Since Last Model
This is a replacement for my 4 year Giro Hex damaged in an accident. I went up one model from the additional shock isolation and rear skull protection. The overall fit feels more secure.
