Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgrade I bought the Reactik to replace a Petzl Zoom headlamp that I got in 1992. The Zoom served me well but finally wore out. I was a skeptical that a led headlamp would be as bright as the halogen bulb in the Zoom, but the Reactik proved me wrong. It is also lighter and more comfortable. The reactive mode gives you great battery life and still was bright enough in all situations. I have not used the red mode much but when I tried it it was better than expected. Not a just replacement the Reactik is an upgrade!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from first headlamp and I'm in love After reading a million reviews, I was torn between this and the BD ReVolt. In a split second decision, I went with this little guy. Most of the poor reviews were from his headlamp not performing as well as the reviewers old headlamp. Well, since I have no experience; this is fantastic. I haven't had issues with it turning on in my pack and getting to the desired light setting hasn't been an issue. I read the directions but I think it's better to read them once and then just experiment. I also splurged and got the noctilight case for it and I highly recommend that as well. The noctilight is a protective case that doubles as a lantern. Check it out.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor button design for backpacking I love Petzl products, so I was really disappointed with the Reactik. My intention was to upgrade my trusted Tikka XP to add a USB-rechargeable lithium battery. The Reactik does provide those features, along with an outstanding new headband. However, it uses an absolutely awful 2-button control system. The buttons are unintuitive; and worst of all, they aren't recessed. As a result, the protruding buttons will turn the lamp on when when stored with other gear. I had this happen every time I packed this lamp in a my pack with other items. Interestingly, every other Petzl and Black Diamond lamp I've owned had recessed buttons that prevent accidental activation. I can't imagine how this could have been overlooked by designers. If used exclusively for walking or cycling or other purposes which don't require storage in tight spaces, this lamp will probably work well. But backpackers risk finding a dead battery with this lamp when they may need it the most.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite headlamp! Maybe I am not as critical as others that have reviewed this headlamp, but... I love this headlamp! The strap is ingenious- super easy/fast to adjust (do it as I put it on, which takes no extra time) and it stays tight for as long as I am using it. I am a fan of the reactive lighting- awesome for night climbing and nice to have when I ended up hiking or snowshoeing in the dark. In general it is best suited for situations where you are often switching between looking at close and far objects (i.e. a hold next to you and then scan the rest of the climbing route, a map/trail guide and then looking up for a landmark). No complaints about the battery. The charge is impressive. There is a indicator light that is nice- glows green, orange or red depending on the charge (when off it constantly blinks red if it has a very low charge). I have really liked having a rechargeable battery and I am not going back- it is way too convenient. The controls are... slightly annoying, but anyone who says they are "complicated" is an idiot. Two buttons. Power button obviously turns it on and off, though you do have to hold it for about two seconds. It starts in reactive mode. You use the other button to cycle between reactive, normal, and red. In the normal mode quickly pressing the power button will cycle between three brightnesses, in the red mode the power button makes it blink or not blink (NOT SOS). Double tap the power button in reactive or normal modes and it will turn on high for about ten seconds. Really not that difficult, but I generally leave it on reactive anyway. You decide. The buttons are sort of recessed. I will say that it would be better if they were bigger and more recessed, but I use this light backpacking all the time and haven't had an issue. Anyone having the problem of the light turning on in the backpack should worry more about ruining the zippers on their pack. Overall, it is a stellar product. The build is nice. Solid and durable, but still light. The pivot works alright. The strap is comfortable. BUT lets remember that this is a flashlight. It is dang bright and really can cast light a fair distance for a headlamp. I am impressed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too smart for its own good I had to return this after a fall season of use. As others have mentioned the button setup is not good, its just too complex. Also, the on button is tough to locate with gloves on, and to turn on you have to hold down the button for couple seconds which is annoying. Also I use the red light feature, which 1; its hard to get to and 2; for whatever reason it will burst out with white light randomly, totally destroying your night vis. lastly, the reactive technology is fine for hiking, but anything else and its pretty annoying. Also, the head strap is really short, I have a normal size head and iit was tight with max extension, with a beanie on its really tight. Bottom line, they just tried to do to much with this light without perfecting anything. I traded it for the BD Storm and thats a fantastic light. REI was great about exchanging. Oh and i forgot to mention that there is no way to substitute regular batteries if it runs out. Most lamps will drain the battery until they are so dim you cant see anything. This one will just quit, which can be a problem depending on your 20.

How does te lock function work?

Asked by: Liz Hiker
Press both the side and top buttons at the same time. The lamp will flash red to indicate it is locked. Press the buttons again to release the lock.
