Rated 5 out of 5 by from GET SOME! Burn a little quickly, but storm proof is right. These saved me when my lighter stopped working in the middle of a crazy storm in Big Sur. This was the only thing I could get to light the stove or the fire, they were absolutely worth it to have even for emergencies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mini Firestarter Kit I bought a few of these a while back, for both hiking and also to equip my buddy and I's PFD's we wear for canoeing with. Thee cool thing is dump out all the matches, then put a bright colored, Mini Bic lighter inside, 12 of the Matches, the spare striker strips that come with it (sealed in plastic) and two Birthday Candles so that now gives me have two methods of starting a fire plus WAX to get it going. And remember you can also use the Bic lighter to ignite the Match heads. In essence you now have an ultra light, Mini-Fire Starter Kit. I have not tested it for total waterproofness yet, but in my PFD inside pocket I also carry small Fire-Steel on the lanyard. These Matches burn HOT! There are a lot of different methods to start that emergency Fire, but this Stormproof Match Kit is a very good investment when your life might be on the line.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this match kit! These matches work great. They are hard to put out and stay lit even when it's windy. I used them to light an esbit fire cube to cook up some rice while at 9600 ft on top of a peak and did awesome even when winds gusted. Definitely the way to go if you need matches. The included flint/striker also works great and is awesome to have right on the match holder.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Matches do not light easily and break very easily It was very difficult to light the matches. The sticks all broke and, once lit, you cannot easily put out the fire. The container may be worth the purchase, but I'll be using regular matches in places of these....and a lighter.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Yeah, the case is waterproof, but not the striker So these are great matches for getting a fire started, but even though the case is waterproof with a gasket, the striker on the outside is not. If it gets wet, you will not be able to light the match. They do provide a couple of spares inside though.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Matches break and don't light up These matches are not a good product, unfortunately they do not always light up (even when dry), they break at the point where the wood attaches and do not distinguish when needed, Shira

Why do waterproof matches need a waterproof case? If I get the UCO Stormproof matches with a cardboard case and twice and many matches, but pack them in a lighter (but non-waterproof) container, will they not work if they get wet?

Asked by: kimsails
The waterproof case helps the matches stay dry for extra protection. The matches will relight after being submerged in water.
