Rated 5 out of 5 by from First hiking boots I've liked! I do a lot of hiking, but I have wide feet and usually avoid hiking boots like the plague and opt for running shoes instead. I'm planning on hiking Half Dome in Yosemite this summer and decided I needed to give hiking boots another try. I'm SO glad I found these. They are wider in the toe for extra room, and they are very sturdy without being too heavy. I wore them out of the store and right to a 12 mile hike and they felt great! My new go-to hiking boot! Especially good if you have wide feet and have had trouble finding boots that don't pinch in the toes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable foot bed I bought these a couple of weeks ago and have been wearing them to break them in. I love the comfort on the foot. Nice and supportive. However, my left ankle, leg, was not able to adjust to the height of the boot. My right leg/ankle felt great. I don't know if it has to do with the way I walk, but the pain was not making me walk any easier. And this was not a strenuous walk/hike. So while I was at first pleased with the shoes, I couldn't keep them since I can't use them for a long period. So I had to return them (so sad) and have instead replaced them with a low hiking shoe. We'll see how that goes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable out of the box I wore these for one break-in walk of 2 miles and then an 8-mile hike on a muddy trail, and they've been comfortable and wonderful! No issues at all (no rubbing, blisters, anything). They feel very roomy, they could accommodate thick socks. I even considered going down half a size but I'm going to stick with the roomier fit, which works once I cinches down the laces a bit. They were waterproof on a muddy trail, although they didn't get submerged or anything. I also think the green/blue color is really nice looking! So far really happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I feel like Super Woman I bought these on a Friday and did a 7 mile hike on Saturday - no breaking in necessary. The ankle support was exactly what I needed to feel more stable, especially on this particular hike that involved a lot of steep inclines and declines. I moved much more quickly than I would without the ankle support. I also put much less pressure on my knees, knowing I was less likely to roll an ankle. I bought them in blue and cannot recommend these boots enough. I'd give them 10 stars if I could.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OK so I bought them for the color (blue) but great I love Keens. However, I find that every pair fits differently, so you can't just say "oh I always wear a 6 in Keens" and hope for the best. I love the Newport sandals but can't wear the Venice. Go figure. So I'm in a casual living phase, working from home, and reminiscing about my camping across America days, so I'm all into this stuff. Putting on a solid feeling pair of hiking boots makes me feel grounded. I have a pair of Merrells I love, but I wanted another pair and just could not do brown. I spotted the blue, they fit great (I did add a pair of Superfeet pink inserts which always helps) and voila, I wear them all the time. Jeans and yoga pants, it's all the same in LA, and I wear these all the time. Very comfortable, very durable, very solid but not heavy, very breathable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome boots for wide feet! I bought these boots one week before a big hike, and didn't have much time to break them in aside from a short walk in them around my neighborhood. I was really nervous that I would get foot pain and blisters since I didn't wear them much before the hike. However, these boots were totally comfortable during and after the hike. I wore them for more than 8 hours straight with no problems whatsoever. I have wide feet, and bought a half size up from my normal shoe size to accommodate thick hiking socks. These boots are FANTASTIC for wide feet. I have had problems finding a hiking booth that isn't too narrow, and these were the perfect solution! Just a heads up, the blue boot is darker in person than in the photos online. I really like the darker blue color, as it looks a little more subtle than it appears in the online images. It's a gorgeous blue leather, but does show dirt more than a brown boot does, which is fine with me! These boots are fantastic. I am very happy with this purchase!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great boot with support Love these boots! The fit is nice, has a little more width through the toe, and is stable in the heel. Makes the boot very cozy and leaves room if my feet swell a little on longer hikes. Picture is with 15 miles and I feel like the are getting even more comfortable by the mile. I especially love the blue leather but I will contact keen for info on how to clean it as lots of dust stuck to it the first trip out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keen....always go with Keen! My first hiking boots were ankle high Keens. Then I wanted to try some mid-type boots, so I went with a shoe that had some good reviews. I ended up returning those boots and going back to Keen. Now I have these and I love them! They are far more cushioned on the feet, better arch support, and altogether just fit my feet together. The laces on these are also fantastic. The shoes I returned had floss for laces, making it really difficult to tighten and tough on the fingers to do so. I can say with confidence, these babies are waterproof after having slipped and stepped into a stream. Lastly, the grip on the soles are consistently great. Wet rocks are no big deal. I love Keen, I am ashamed that I momentarily was led astray.

How much toe room does one allow in a hiking boot that will be worn on long hikes?

Asked by: Jane
Hikers should allow enough room to wear slightly thicker socks than normal and not have the end of their toes touching the inside end of the toebox. This will give to toes room to flex during a natural stride and help keep them from impacting the end of the boot on severe downhills.

What is the difference between the Gypsum and the Targee? Does one have more arch support than the other?

Asked by: muddy boots
The upper and the midsole on the Gypsum II are stiffer than the on the Targhee II giving them added support and stability. Both boots have moderate arch support.

How similar is this new Gypsum Mid II model to the original ones? I'm replacing the original ones which I LOVE and can't find them anywhere in my size so feel like I may have to succumb to the II but I'm worried they won't fit the same.

Asked by: ayobami
The Gypsum II and the Gypsum are almost identical. The major difference is the II weigh a little more at 1 lb. 15.8 oz. a pair.
