Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great hoodie I purchased this as a budget friendly down jacket for ultralight backpacking. So far it's been great. I wore this over a wool baselayer and light fleece mid layer in 20 degree weather and I was comfortably warm. I'm guessing that same setup would do well in anything above 10 degrees. I am 5'11 175-180lbs. The medium fit almost perfect but I went with the large to accommodate a couple of layers underneath and to sleep comfortably in it if needed. My only minor issue is that the hood is a little large (likely because I went with the large) and doesn't have cinches. So occasionally it feels like it's sliding a little too far over my forehead. A medium would likely solve this for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great jacket! I bought this jacket for a weekend trip in Pisgah, NC. I needed a pretty large size, so I was limited in what I purchased. But for price/fill count/warmth I was really happy with this jacket. Turns out the weekend was kinda warmer than expected so I stuffed the jacket into it's pocket and used it as a pillow in my NEMO bag and I was able to easy put it in my day pack, taking up minimal space, to use when we hiked up to a Black Balsam Knob for sunrise... All in all, super happy with this product. Thanks for making good quality, decent cost jackets REI

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cozy I never thought I'd be a puffy jacket kind of guy, but this jacket changed me. Bought originally for work to layer under a shell, I find myself wearing it everywhere, on its own, even out to dinner. Puffy without making you feel like a certain tire company's mascot, it's warm and cozy. The nylon is soft, the hood fits great and I love that it stuffs into its own pocket. I would add pit zips and maybe make it an inch longer and add a drawstring in the hood.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Puffy for the Price I was a little surprised when I put it on how warm I was. It seemed 'thin' from what I was expecting but it definitely kept me cozy. I think it works best with layers. The first time I wore it all I had on below was a T-shirt. My torso and shoulders were warm, but when the cold wind picked up my arms were feeling the chill. I thought I would miss a pull string for the hood, however the way it fit around my face after I zipped the neck all the way up was great. No need for a pull string. Also the zippers and stitching around the pockets are a little cheap. Some strands area already coming loose and I've only worn it twice. This is why its a 4 star rather than a 5. Great jacket to buy and the right price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightwieght and warm I used this at 6000' elevation in late September and the temperature was just below freezing at night. It kept me warm but I also had a proper layers underneath. Its lightweight and packs away easily without taking a lot of space.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but a little misleading The main reason why I wanted to write this review was to inform others of the misleading product pictures. I ordered the "Quiet Shade" color thinking it would be a light grey, but it turned out to be a dark, more charcoal color grey. I've only had this jacket for, a day, so I don't have any backpacking experience with it yet, but I can already tell a few things. Compared to the Marmot Quasar: 1) This jacket is not very fitted or snug (there is some room). This could just be the size that I got (I got a small, which probably was the right size length wise, just a little roomy in the arms--140lbs, 5' 8"). Some people may like a little extra room (for layers), but I personally like a more fitted jacket. 2) This jacket doesn't have a cinch cord at the waist, which I found to be a nice feature. - Other than that, this is a great jacket for the price. 650 fill down is not the best, but it's sufficient. I just tested it outside where the temperature is 39 degrees, and I was warm with only a T-shirt underneath. - Also, I appreciate the hood. It adds extra warmth and I think it looks good. I would recommend this to anyone looking to get the most out of their money for a down jacket purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this thing!! This is my first down jacket and I'm very supersized how warm this jacket keeps me. I put it to the test at work where I'm in and out of a -33 degrees(Fahrenheit) freezer and it keeps my core warmer than our $600 freezer suits. The sizing is perfect and the hood sits and fits great too. It's light as a feather and packs down nicely into the left pocket making it perfect for any outdoor adventure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Killer Warmth for the $ and Weight The vendor who produces this and the non-hooded model has addressed the sizing issues, and I'm happy to say I have the only down jacket I need or want for moderately cold dry conditions. Light, warm, and compact; it'll go in my pack on every trip.

Can I use the hood with an climbing helmet?

Asked by: CSANVER
I found the hoodie fits a little large. I almost have to use a hat for a good fit. I tried it on with a light bicycling helmet (average Bell) with a thickness less than 2 inches and it worked out fine.

is the jacket in the video the 'atlantic deep' color? looks a little darker than in the picture

Asked by: mckenzi4
Yes, it is the Atlantic Deep color. The image is shot in brighter light conditions and the video was shot with darker lighting. While they may seem to be different shades, this is the same color and demonstrates how it will look in different conditions.

I just received my jacket. I'm very happy with the quality and warmth. I'm 5'10" 220#. Ordered an XL & think it may be too loose. Should this fit close to the body?

Asked by: blazegraphics
This jacket has a regular fit and is not designed to fit too snugly. However, if you feel your jacket is too large, you are welcome to return or exchange it. Our return policy can be found online here: https://www.rei.com/help/return-policy.html

Does this down jacket with a hood feature pit zips? If not do you have a down jacket with a hood that has pit zips. I get hot while hiking and would like to be able to exhaust the heat to prevent sweating.

Asked by: GratefulJAM
This down jacket does not feature pit zips. We unfortunately do not have any down jackets with pit zips. That said, the KUHL Spyfire Down Jacket has Underarm stretch-knit panels let heat escape when you get too hot.
