Rated 2 out of 5 by from Perfect jacket, except for feathers I bought this jacket in December for winter in Zürich, Switzerland. I thought it was the perfect jacket - it was exactly what I was looking for in regards to comfort, versatility, function and it looked nice. I brought it back home with me to Switzerland and the more I wore it, the more it shed feathers all over whatever I was wearing underneath. The feathers were especially apparent because I wear a lot of black, and the white feathers would show up really well because of the contrast. It was disappointing because I was looking forward to being able to use this jacket for many more years, but am in the process of returning it due to this issue.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good except for feather shed This is a beautiful jacket, very comfortable. I was in Chicago recently at a night time outdoor event in windchill 14 degrees. With minimal layering this coat juuuussst kept me warm. The next day I wore it with a black fleece pullover and I was perfectly toasty however the coat shed all over my black fleece pullover like know down coat I've ever purchased has for that reason I may return it. I feel like there is just barely enough down so if I'm going to be shedding down in abundance everytime I wear it (let alone having my black clothes covered in feathers) it won't last long. Too bad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm, most comfortable jacket I bought this jacket in Navy blue about a month ago and have worn it almost every day. It has kept me warm and comfortable without the bulk. I have received many compliments on the fit and look. This is one of the most comfortable jackets I have. I can't wait to wear it on day hikes. If I could change 1 thing, it would be to make the hip/upper thigh area slightly larger but the lower zipper does accommodate for movement. Also, I have read previous reviews and I have not experienced feather shed. My jacket has been rolled up and thrown in gym lockers, tossed in the back seat of my car, and survived several dogs jumping on me and have the muddy paw prints to prove it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and Dry Remember the days when you had those jackets with the waterproof outer layer and a zip in/out inner fleece for warmth? Kind of miss those? I do too! Except I don’t miss how complicated or heavy they are. Meet the Floodlight. It’s 800 fill down and super warm with a waterproof outer layer. AND still very light! Given how puffy it is, it’s not the most packable insulation layer, but it will keep your warm and dry on those cold fall and winter days where the rain/sleet blows sideways. Keep in mind that this jacket is WARM, so it’s not the best layer for uphill pursuits unless you’re in a REALLY cold climate. However, it performs great as a one-layer-to-do-it-all when you’re only going downhill, snowmobiling, walking around town, or just spending a lot of time outdoors in the coldest months.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket This is a lightweight down jacket, definitely more substantial than a down sweater, but not a heavy duty down coat. At first I thought it might be too light, but with a few layering pieces, it is comfortable and warm at -20. The weight is just right for layering - makes it much more versatile as a 4-season jacket (at 9,000 ft in Colorado). Very well constructed with a hood that stays in place, fleece lined pockets and a flattering cut. Long enough to cover the tush, but doesn't make you look like a stuffed sausage. I love this jacket!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waterproof Down...You Better Believe It! This is my second Floodlight down jacket and I love it! The only reason I got rid of the old one was to get the Parka (it covers the butt). I work in wilderness therapy and have field tested this product in the winter. I had an experience where it was snowing at elevation, and once we ascended it started raining at camp. This jacket kept me warm AND dry during the rainstorm. Once I got into the tarp shelter I shook off the water (the jacket had compressed, and it dried and regained loft within the hour. It eliminated my need for a shell and a down jacket. Will be using this as both my field jacket and my resort jacket.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Did not keep me warm I lost my other down jacket on a hike in Wyoming and spent the $360 thinking it would be an investment on a good jacket for fall/winter. I didn't feel like it provided much more warmth than a windbreaker. It's a beautiful jacket and very comfortable, but the down lining was minimal and, I would only recommend for mild temperatures.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good...but May be testing out the waterproofness today. Certainly warm. I am 5'7" 127 lbs and the small fits perfectly. My only complaint is that the first time I wore it, it shedded goose down through the lining onto my sweater.

What is the fill weight? and denier of the jacket? How does this 650 fill OR floodlight compare with the 800 fill OR floodlight jacket [has anyone had both]? Is the only difference the fill power?

Asked by: kittens
This item has a 30D Pertex Shield+ 2L laminate exterior. Unfortunately an exact fill weight is unavailable. Comparing 650 fp to 800 fp down, the latter will be lighter weight and more compressible.

I’m looking for a fitted, warm down jacket. I’m deciding between the floodlight and the kuhl down. They are both a good length, over the butt. Which jacket would be best to suit my needs?

Asked by: Msmissel
The Floodlight Down Parka has a feminine fit and is a great jacket for warmth. If you would like to compare it to similar options, please give us a call at 1-800-426-4840.

Is the 650 fill jacket older? Or newer? OR's website says the same jacket has 800 fill down and is $70 more.

Asked by: Mike67
This is a different model of jacket from what is shown on Outdoor Research's website. Both jackets are new, but this model is an REI Exclusive and it does have a different fill and price.

I usually take size 12. The bust size for a medium is exactly my size, but my waist is larger. Should I buy a large so that I can wear a shirt and lightweight fleece (or sweater) under the jacket?

Asked by: kzoot
Yes, we recommend ordering a size up for comfortable layering.

How is the goose down leakage problem??? I would be very disappointed if that happened.

Asked by: LilDorie
This jacket is fully seam-taped with bonded down channels, which will help prevent down leakage.
