Perfect winter coat
Love this coat. Got it for winter. At below freezing I only wore one long sleeve shirt underneath and was always comfortable and warm. It just feels cozy and warm. I find it fairly flattering considering it’s a sleeping bag style coat. I use it also to walk the dog in the morning over my pajamas as it goes below my knees. Hoodie actually functional and collar keeps wind out. Feels very protective. True to size, maybe a little large. I usually wear a size L (M for shirts and XL for pants), and L in the coat fits perfect with room for a sweater. I am 5‘8‘‘ and about 200 pounds curvey/athletic build.
Arctic Ready
Bought this for a 2 week winter trip in Norway and Svalbard and it kept me plenty warm! Don’t forget those wool layers underneath though. For being so lightweight it helped keep the wind from cutting through and held up on windy boat tours. I did see a couple feathers pop out here and there but nothing major. I bought the black version and it did pick up a couple mysterious stains but I really did put it through the wringer. The puffy hood was really nice but didn’t cinch to my face very well so when it was extra windy I layered a fleece hood underneath, highly recommend.
Did not know what to expect but happy with the purchase.
I honestly didn't know what to expect because there are practically no pictures!! I'm 5'4 110 lbs and ordered a small. It reaches below my knees and it's quite big, I would've probably gotten an x small had I known that but it Small is fine since it's supposed to look oversized. I have a pro account, so I think at that price it is very much worth it to buy it, but I'm not sure about it if I had paid full price due to the fact that it is not waterproof! The coat is pretty large in the shoulder areas, so if you are slim like me the xtra small should be fine. The collar is pretty high, which is fun cause I don't need a scarf, but I can't see anything with the hood on cause it's so big. The zipper is decent, I've seen better and worse. The fabric does not feel waterproof, it's kind of porous so if you live in a rainy place I would go for something else I think! but it's suuuuuuper warm (I'm ALWAYS cold) so it's definitely more appropriate for the truly cold winters. I live in Montreal QC, and so far so good! Oh also if you have many furry babies, just know what all the hair sticks to the coat lol.
Luxuriously warm
Well made, comfortable, cozy and oh so warm. Plenty of room for layering underneath, although you won't need to with how warm this jacket is. Nice relaxed fit, doesn't have the ridiculous "waist cinched" look that so many women's coats have. No obnoxious brand labeling either, just a monochrome "OR" embroidered on the sleeve. Luxuriously cozy hood which can be tightened for extra warmth. Soft wrist gaiters keep hands warm and cold breezes out. Hits at my knee, I'm 5'5". As someone who is always cold, this coat it a real treat. Wish I had bought it years ago.
Contrarian view - Missing an important feature
At first glance, the jacket has all bells and whistles - as it should at this price point. Quality construction and materials. However, the hood is only adjustable 1 way - around your face. You cannot pull it back. Most OR research jackets have a pull in the back so the hood can be properly fitted. The hood was so deep that I couldn't see where I was walking, completely obscuring line of sight. Had to return! Hoping this will be fixed in the next version.
Exactly what I wanted!
I've been dreaming about this coat for MONTHS and finally bought it! I just moved to Chicago in July and made sure to do all my cold weather research for the best winter coat to keep out the wind and the cold. This parka is so cute and so lightweight! I love the way it fits and is very true to size. Based on a few previous reviews I was tempted to order a S however I decided to go with my usual size and ordered a M (for reference I am 5'0 & 150lbs). The M was perfect. The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because I have yet to try it out on a truly cold winter day but will update in January!
Missing some higher end details for the price
Very warm and comfy jacket, but for $400 I felt like there were some aspects that made the jacket feel cheap, so I returned. Pros: length, side slits at the bottom, high neck coverage, overall warmth. Cons: material attracts a lot of lint, no front buttons for quick closure, and, hard to describe, but the interior lining is sewn only to the outermost hems, so the interior lacks the definition you normally see in down parkas. I know some of these cons wouldn’t bother a lot of people, and for a lower price they wouldn’t bother me, but I live in Chicago and wear my winter coat basically everywhere all the time, winter after winter, so need something that’s both functional and attractive (albeit extremely puffy :) ).
My favorite thing I've ever bought for myself.
Hands down, this is the best thing I've ever bought for myself. Oddly enough, I live in Duluth, MN and have never been a huge fan of the cold. But this coat makes it tolerable. It feels like a cozy hug...or like walking outdoors in a sleeping bag. I regret all the years I spent worrying about wearing a coat with a waistline...or wearing a coat that seemed flattering. Warmth matters. Cozy matters. Wind/water-resistance matter. This coat helps with all those. Plus I feel kind of cute in it. Like a little cozy caterpillar tucked into a cocoon or something. Waistlines are overrated, trust me! And all this from someone who never writes reviews. ✨
I will wear this for many winters to come
This parka is so cozy! It's very lightweight considering it's like receiving a hug from a sleeping bag, almost meets my knees which keeps my legs warm, has ample room to wear a warm layer beneath, has a tall neck cuff and well-cut hood to keep the wind at bay. I feel like I'm wearing a cloud and am very comfortable outside during our crisp, blowy, snowy -35C Rocky Mountain winter days. The 'fir' is a gorgeous colour, the compliments were plenty. (I read a review about it not being waterproof and feel the need to comment on that. It's not a rain coat. It's a winter coat for minus double-digit weather and rain doesn't happen when it's that cold.)
Very warm and cozy
Things I love about this coat: very long (below knee on my 5'5 frame), warm and plush, not too swishy/noisy, nice matte color, great pockets (though I would like an exterior zip chest pocket), water resistance is good so far, BIG hood does not mess around -- will keep your glasses dry and can wear a hat under the hood. A couple other reviews in Seattle say it's too much for our more mild weather and it's not totally waterproof. I run cold and feel like it's perfect warmth and reasonable water resistance for our drizzly winters. I would probably not choose this for pouring rain. True that it is not the most flattering jacket but it's fine.
