Absolutely love this coat!

The fit is perfect - sleeves the right length, shoulders the right width, main coat body proportioned correctly. The finish details such as zippers, elastic, draw-string, etc. are good-quality. I love the hood on windy, cold days! The coat is light and flexible, but still appropriately warm. The down filling is just the right weight and the quality of the shell is fantastic. I could not be happier with this purchase - spendy, but well worth it!

LOVE the feel and fit!

My husband bought this jacket for me, and I absolutely love how light it feels to wear! I like how it isn't overly puffy in that I look more like Hawaiian rolls and less like a swollen Michelin Man. It feels as though you are wearing a fashionably less dense goose down comforter and while it's great for wearing outdoors for walks in the crisp cool fall, it's also great to nap at home in. Added bonus with the partially lined pockets - they're perfect for me and my low circulation fingers.

Love it!

I really enjoy wearing this down hoodie. I’m 5’2”, 130 pounds, and bought a medium. I prefer my gear not to be tight and this size works perfectly to pair it with a light fleece underneath (it pairs super well with the trail mix quarter zip). It keeps me warm on hikes in moderately cold temps like 0 to -10c if properly layering. It is so lightweight that I barely feel like I’m wearing anything, which is so lovely. I have very good range of motion and don’t feel confined - it moves with my body nicely. I purchased the sunrise colour which is very attractive, but also helps keep me safer on hikes on crown land during hunting season. So far it has been durable with no rips and no leaking down. The pockets are a great size and I especially love the inner zipped chest pocket to keep my phone warm and safe. Overall, a wonderful lightweight down hoodie that packs down nicely!

Runs large

This is a really nice jacket. I bought it to take on a backpacking trip. It is light and packs fairly small. It does run large. I have another Outdoor Research jacket in small (my usual size) that is a little tight in the hips so I ordered a medium. I should have ordered the small to begin with. Unfortunately I had a coupon for 15% off and when I made the return and re-order I lost the coupon plus I had to pay for return shipping so I ended up paying more!

Cozy, but oddly baggy bottom half

This is a really nice jacket: very soft, seems warm, repelled the bit of rain I was in. But it's really bulky in the torso. Pulling the drawstring makes it off center. My other jackets (Columbia, Patagonia, REI brand) all go in a little at the waist instead of hang in a very baggy way. Going to try the XS to see if that works better. I'm 5'2", 110 lbs with a long torso. If you're between sizes, I recommend trying both!

Comfy Parka

Nice parka. packs down into a gallon ziplock bag. Warm for Spring, it might not be warm enough for snow ( why I gave it 4 stars). I bought a large, I weight 130#. Things are getting smaller these days?

Would not recommend.

I bought this jacket for a hiking trip to Patagonia in November. I was very excited to try it out as I have a few down jackets but wanted to splurge and buy a nice new one for my trip, but unfortunately it did not meet my expectations. I would rate it 2.5/5. I also wear it on walks in the early morning in Southern California in ~50* and it does not keep me warm unless I wear a fleece under it. i have other down jackets that keep me warm without additional layers in the same weather. Pros: - the jacket material is buttery and feels really nice - the lined pockets were nice -lightweight and packs up very small Cons: - very thin, this did not keep me warm at all (wore it while hiking or hanging out at the campsite at night mid 40s - mid 50s with some mild wind at times). I had to wear either a wind breaker over it or a fleece under it. - already some fray along the zipper. Nothing bad but I only have worn it for 2 weeks. - has a boxy/ baggy fit that i don’t prefer. I am 5’3, 115lbs and I bought a small. A fleece fit underneath comfortably but there was still a ton of room. The small was very long on me.

Amazing

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Outdoor research gave me this sample to try. I have been in the back country setting in all weather conditions. I am mainly in the white mountains where the temperatures vary, this coat, which fits true to size worked well as an outerlayer and midlayer. I think this piece is a critical part of anyones attire in the backcountry for a day trip or an extended multi day trip. This is a worthwhile piece to have in your collection. I have tried many brands, but I have never been so impressed with a layering piece and the versatility it has along with the extreme COMFORT. I love the oversized pockets that can keep my hands warm. It is so lightweight yet warm. It could be used in the cold winter days or even as I'm heading out for a chilly evening on water paddle boarding! The hood is form fitting so it doesn't move around when you are moving. The elastic cord on the bottom makes it a form fit so it doesn't ride up on you. It is super compact that it'll break down into the pocket making it just over the size of a softball. OR has been my GO TO for gloves and sun hoodies but this product has taken the lead which is hard to do in my favorites. -Meg
