Great Storage Option

Just picked this up and first used it to carry some drinks and take-out breakfast burritos. This is a great size to carry a lunch for two. Depending on how much I'm carrying I can use just the Rack Trunk or with a backpack to keep pack weight light and comfortable. This is the perfects sized cargo bag. As some YouTube reviewers have commented, the side zipper pockets can't hold much. But you can see in my pictures how its enough to hold a phone and I tossed a "mini" wallet that holds a driver's license and debit card when traveling. Nothing I'd keep in there while the bike is unattended but you can find some uses for those pockets. The best thing about this "trunk" is the MTX Quick Track, the ease of securing and removing the bag. I intend to get a second rack for my wife's bike so she can use the bag as well. The inside divider is a nice organizational touch. We used it to protect and organize a portable speaker. The addition of the water bottle holder vs. the previous gen. is really smart. The inside lid pocket is perfect size for a digital reader. The bag handle or shoulder strap also make it a great solution to a quick ride to the grocery store for an item or two. This rack and bag was more $ than I wanted to spend but the quality and usability is better than most others i researched.

Good quality bag, but with one critical flaw

I bought this trunk bag together with a matching Topeak Explorer rear rack, thinking that it'd be a slick system. And it is, the bag seems well made and is of a good useful size. However, the flaw I unfortunately discovered is that when using this trunk bag gets in the way of my Ortlieb pannier clips, making it impossible to use both panniers and this trunk bag despite the matching rack. I am undecided if I am going to return it. By itself it still makes a nice day pack. If you don't want/need to use it with panniers then I would still recommend it.

Small on the outside, big inside!

Great little bag that holds a lot, easy on and off. The water holder pouch holds my lock.

Simply Fantastic

This bag has made my life riding so much easier. I can fit just about anything that I need in it. There are a few exceptions that have me looking at their larger bags as well. This is a great every day bag though. On top of the bag being great Topeak themselves are simply fantastic.About a month after getting the bag I broke the bright yellow clip that secures the bag to the rack. I contacted Topeak via email and had a replacement part, which was easy to replace, within the week. That's the kind of service I really appreciate and Topeak has made a life long customer out of me.

Perfect for the Heavy Packer

Distance riding in the winter may be freezing or sunny and cold, requiring assorted layers. Had gotten the smaller version of this bike luggage as I call it, but it was too small for winter packing. This can carry light food, lights, water, jackets, phone. Haven’t used the side saddles yet. I can also pack take-out food on the top or inside, which is a bonus. Have a U-shaped lock that fits in top pocket as well. Had REI install the Explorer MTX Rack on my Cannondale Quick CX2 and it fit perfectly. The Topeak MTX Trunk Bag EXP Rack Trunk completes the setup.

A big step backward in design

Two weeks ago I purchased my third Topeka MTX Trunk Bag EX. I wore out the first two over 10 years. I like Topeak's rack design, which avoids the velcro attachment hassle. The bag is a good size for long day rides or even multi-day credit card bike rides. Unfortunately the current design is a big step backward. Carry handles are now on top (formerly were on the end). If you attach a jacket or other bulky item under the shock cords, the handles get in the way, especially when zipping up. So I razor bladed them off. The new rear bottle holder is marginally useful if you already have two cages (bottle holders) on the bike and/or use a hydration pack like Osprey or Camelback. It's dead weight. Five stars before; now three.

Great bag, does what it says.

Pros: - Ease of use over previous velcro strap-on bags - Secure, snaps in securely - Snap on, snap off. That's it. Easy. Cons: - It lacks the false top that its Velcro predecessor had, which unzipped to raise the top another few inches when needed. Why eliminate that? - The side pockets are next to worthless, as they only allow flat objects (letters, yada) - REI accepted my return with no question! And I purchased the next click up, which offers optional panniers on the sides. (Even then, I still miss the false top).

Well made bike bag stands the test of time

I have had this bag for many years and thousands of miles and love it. It holds a lot of stuff, is solid, and the zippers work well. I use the elastic to tie down bulkier jackets or rain gear. Well made. Great size for tools, tubes, snacks, a baseball hat and an extra shirt.

Good size, well built

Bag slides very nicely into the track on my rear Carrier. It then locks into place on the front of the Carrier. Release by pushing down on the locking mechanism (be sure the bag and Carrier are compatible). Very handy to remove and take with me if running into a store, etc. The interior compartment is large enough for a lunch, change of clothing, phone, keys, or other small items. There is a user-adjustable inner partition that can be moved as needed. Two zippered side pouches can hold other items. Rest water bottle carrier gas a pull-cord to secure the bottle. Double zippers are well made. A net on top makes a handy place to store a jacket or other item (be sure nothing hangs down into the spokes). Very well constructed.

Nice bag but.....

So let me start by saying that I bought the matching rack a while back with the intention of getting the bag when on sale. Both the bag and the beam rack are quality..no gripe there. Here's the big problem..without getting into so much detail the bag is supposed to just slide into the track on the rack..simple, right? nope After 45 minutes, after spraying the track with WD40 to ease installation, and after injuring the palm of my hand trying to mate the two items together I finally settled for an incredibly tight fit that is terrible..but will work. Removal of the bag from the rack is another story. Also, I called the 800 no. on the bag for Topeak..what a waste. First, I was put on hold and then a minute later I an told to leave a message. Crazy..I needed help then and there but no..and customer support never even called me back. As I said..a waste of time. So i give all of this 3 stars because the rack and bag are well-made but DO NOT fit together as they are supposed to. I was really excited at first..now just sorely disappointed! By the way, I was an Aircraft Mechanic for 24 years so I do know a thing or two about putting things together....
