Sturdy, well designed, right size
I don’t usually do reviews, but this bag is impressive and I felt compelled. Indestructible feel, absolutely cavernous, looks great. Great for sport climbing, fits everything, I wouldn’t go smaller… would fit a rack too if you carry the rope on top of the pack. Very thoughtful design makes using the back an absolute pleasure. Only constructive feedback would be to improve the carrying system for the approach. It’s adequate, but not as good as an osprey pack for example. Overall, so glad I dropped my alpine pack + rope bag system for this all in one beautifully designed workhorse that I’ll have for the next decade and more. 5 Stars!
Great design, but some room to improve
After dreaming of this pack for years I finally ponied up and bought it. Overall I love it, though there are a couple things I'd like to see improved upon. First, and maybe mine was an exception, but quality is in question as my first day out with the pack the sewing on the draw string closer broke on me. I hope its not indicative of lesser quality than normal coming from BD. Second, the shoulder straps could definitely see some improvement, they feel pretty thin when the pack is loaded up. I think making them just a little wider could be much more comfortable. Other than those gripes, I love this pack and am looking forward to using it for a long time.
Awesome Pack
bombproof and stylish... definitely worth the money... and probably my favorite climbing/cragging pack to date (10yrs? on the road) only improvement would be on the front compartment zipper... it needs an overlap w/ button clasp like the top load zipper... i modified mine by punching a grommet and using a little key ring clasp to prevent the front from opening...
Great, roomy and sturdy pack
I carry a lot of stuff to the crag so I was skeptical whether a 50 L pack could replace my old, repurposed backpacking pack. But even the reinforced duct tape on its bottom had worn out, and when I saw someone else at the crag with the Creek 50, I started to have hope. Turns out it's plenty big for everything I bring, and I won't have to worry about the bottom wearing through. Everything is well thought out and sturdy, the only thing I am missing is a (detachable?) top pocket, because the front pocket kind of works but I fear for things (e.g. belay glasses) that are a bit fragile when I toss the pack around or squeeze through narrow passages. It just seems the top pocket would be a safer space.
Best Trad Climbing Pack on the market
I had always used backpacking packs for my trad days at the Gunks. I thought all of the pockets for organization and comfort for "long" approaches made sense. I was wrong. This pack is super durable, has just the right amount of organizational pockets and is plenty comfortable for most approaches. It stands up straight on the ground and is cavernous - making it so easy to pack/unpack and find what you need. Full accepts my double trad rack, water, layers, etc. with the strap over the top to hold a rope. (side note: BD - please bring back your Super Slacker Rope Bag!). Highly recommend!
Awesome pack, just one minor suggestion that I wish had made it into the 2021 update
I love this pack for my guiding business, I can throw pretty much anything in it and I can carry it really comfortably. The only modification I would LOVE to see is the main zip opening up ALL the way down to the bottom, perhaps even across the bottom of the pack as well so that the whole thing can lay out on the ground. Currently my (first generation) pack's zip only goes down maybe 70% of the way, leaving a kind of dark hole that I still can't stuff as well as I'd like. Like I said, minor adjustment and I haven't quite been bothered to go out and find someone to modify it for me.
Mega Bucket of a Pack
Its a big bucket, but with a smart design. It opens easily from the top and the side. I like that the pack stands upright for easy loading/unloading. Enough room inside for all the gear I need for a solid day of cragging whether I'm top roping, sport or trad climbing along with my food, water, 1st Aid Kit, rain jacket, you get the picture. A few zip up pouches keep my wallet and keys secure as well. What surprised me the most was how comfortable the bag is to carry. I bought the larger size and I'm 6'1". I do a lot of hiking & backpacking and am very pleased with the comfort of this pack when weighted down. I'm not taking it for a weeks long backcountry trip, for a day of cragging with an easy or long approach its great!
Creek 50 review
This pack was an incredible addition and really stood out during my most recent trip to Red Rocks, Joshua Tree and some of the limestone faces surrounding Vegas. As well as Texas granite climbing. It held all of my gear in an organized manner but my biggest compliment I can give it is how well the pack carried. It was impressively comfortable to carry 45-50 pounds of gear for some pretty gnarly approaches. It flies well too. Zippers stayed close through baggage check/handling. If I could have a single complaint it would be the plastic clasps to keep the rain tarp in place. I wrenched down on one and it broke. But due to all of the loops I was still able to tie off and keep my gear secure and dry. Plan to use this pack for years to come!!
My most useful bag
I love this bag! The best part is that the zipper can open the bag from the bottom or I can have it almost completely open from the side. The only downside is that there is an outer pocket that you can't fully close. Things fall out easily. I put the rain fly over it, but that doesn't keep everything secure. I will often use this bag as my carry on when I fly but it is tricky when I can't secure stuff in it. There are pockets inside that can zip, which does help! I also wish the zippers were on the same side, but that's just me.
Simply Amazing
This pack is the ultimate work-horse! I recently purchased the Creek 50 to replace my old Caliber 50 and I'm so glad I did! This pack is build to last, and the fine details are very well thought out. It fits all my daily needs from a simple sport rack to a full trad rack(or 2) for long days at the crag. Plenty of food, water, and extra layers also fit with no issues. I spend a lot of my days at the crag with my whole family, so packing enough gear for multiple top-ropes, both my kid's equipment, and plenty snacks is no issue.
