Feels like breathable armor

Easily one of my favorite OR pieces. The fit is perfect on me in size large. 200lbs athletic. I tend to run very warm, so Breathability is always on top of my requirements for jackets and this one does great. Blocks the right amount of wind and the DWR held up in moderate rain for about 30 minutes. Plenty of time to find a good place to stop and dig out my hard shell. This is honestly one of those 90/10 jackets where all except for the worst weather, this thing is preferable. Pocket placement is great. Durability seems bulletproof so far in alpine and glacier. The fit is great for throwing over a baselayer, which is all I ever seem to want.

Exactly what I was looking for

Used the Ferrosi Summit with the Ascendant Hoody for early season ski touring. Just the Ferrosi on the uptrack and in conjunction with the Ascendant on the down. The combination just right for me. The Ferrosi breathes extremely well and kept me dry on the up and down (it was snowing lightly at the start of the tour and I was working hard throughout). The material was light weight, but burly enough for skiing through the trees without a worry. I'm a strong believer in pure soft shells (no laminate or other barrier other than a DWR) and this was the best I've found in a long time. It certainly was not waterproof, but that's the whole point.

My All Season Soft-Shell

Sun beating down on you from an exposed crag? Hoping to keep the snow off you during an ice climb? Walking around town and want to look like a boss? This jacket will work! ;-) It breathes well enough to wear in the summer to keep the sun from burning you while climbing and is a good layer for winter to keep the snow from getting your down jacket wet. The upper pockets are great when wearing a harness and the hood is great with a helmet. There are soft-shells that have better water resistance than this one but in my opinion its breathable design makes it one of the best. It will keep your layers beneath dry and keep you from sweating. I take it everywhere.

Perfect for Colorado ski touring

Good wind and wet resistance, extremely breathable which is super important to me as I run hot even in the coldest temps. Kept me dry while getting pitted in the gnarliest waist deep pre-season pow here. Chest pockets fit my skins for quick laps in the perfect trees and bowls. This and an R3 baselayer were perfect for 20 degrees and snow on the skin track. Didn't get me hot but kept the chill off of me. 180 lbs and 6' with a long torso so finding shells that fit well without being too oversized is difficult but this one fit very well. Only issue is the velcro on the sleeves is a bit tough to adjust with gloves on but that is a minor issue. A waist drawcord might be nice too to help keep snow out while taking the copious face shots of blower pow pow we get here

Just right

I needed a win-resistant layer to put over an OR Radiant Hybrid Hoody or other lighterweight layers to cut the breeze and to keep light rain off, but not looking for a waterproof layer. The fit is OK (150 lbs, bought a Small), but it could be a little looser esp. around the shoulders and armpits, but it's OK. Sleeves are long enough so a Medium would have been too large for sure. I am pleases of how it did cut wind in the fall at the top of a 4000 ft in NH, while allowing sweat that had built up on my back, under the pack, on the way up to evaporate while not feeling any cold wind. It seems very versatile too with the sturdier fabric compared to the regular lighter Ferrosi and I think it makes it just right.

Good soft shell jacket

Bought the jacket as a ski touring jacket. Works well and I will also use this come summer time for alpine climbing. 4 pockets is nice, wrist velcro is useful, hood fits nice. I wouldn't have argued if this had some internal pockets though. As a winter time jacket I would not rely on this as my do it everything jacket. I carry a hardshell in my pack in case things get too spicy. Water resistant is the key for this jacket, but I could see it easily getting wet. I think the best application for this jacket would be a 3 season jacket and it may not be my first choice for deep cold winter touring. Sizing - I'm 195lbs and 6'1 athletic build. I bought a large and it fits my long arms well. For reference I wear large in arcteryx.

Needs a pocket change and please bring it back!

This jacket should be more popular, I much prefer this to the hoody version that doesn't have wrist cuffs. The wire bring and collar are phenomenal. Holds ups pretty well to light weather. Had only this when I got caught on a craig. Kept me warm but wetted out quickly. I love the jacket for many of it's features but there are a couple things that I don't love. One thing that really is getting annoying are the chest pockets. They are not deep at all. So if you put anything that has any weight to it ( I mean a wallet with 4 cards in it or a cell ) and bend over they will fall out. I know I know... I should zip up the pockets, but sometimes you are running around and you need to bend over quick. I had a jacket from another brand and they make their pockets a little deeper for this specific reason. If you are on the side of a rock face and put a lock gate in the pocket for a second and look down to your belay you will lose it. It really really gets annoying. I sail and work on my boat a lot, I find this the perfect jacket to put over my wool sweater. It keeps my clothes clean when working with 4200. I the pockets when fully zipped are nice to hold all the various wrenches and such that are needed when working on a boat.

Great layer

Bought this in preparation for Alaska winters and a road trip from NC to AK. Bought a large in order to facilitate layering. I am 5'11 and 180 lbs and the large was a good fit for layering. Had no issues with wetting out in mid to light rain. Good wind management. Dumped heat efficiently. Fit well over my ascendant hoody. Just good all around jacket. Will be buying a medium for more general purpose. The large is too big if not layering. Which. Is what I intended. Looking forward to testing it out in more extreme conditions. Also the night looks great.

Love this jacked

I love this jacket, great fit, great range of motion, very breathable. It's great for snow and light rain, or as a wind proof layer. The hoodie provides ample space for a helmet while at the same time providing great wind protection. The pockets are well placed and work well with a backpack or a harness. My only concern is with the bendable wire in the hood, mine broke at several points and subsequently ripped a hole in the fabric. I attribute this to pushing it inside my pack without enough care. Despite of this defect I would buy this jacket again.

Awesome for all seasons

I've worn this jacket in the summer, fall and winter. In rain, snow and cold weather. This jacket breathes well. ts pretty durable and dries relatively quick when it gets wet. I'm 6'3" 210lbs. I bought a large. The sleeves are a little long for the XL so I went with the large. I layered up with a level 1 and 2 underneath when I went to Mt. Rainier and was warm. I was on the move the whole time. For movements this jacket is great. If I was static I probably would have put on another layer to stay warmer. Quality product :)
