Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dissapointed I purchased five pairs of these pants years ago that I am still wearing, although they have lost their zest. I was so happy to find it still available. However, these are not the same quality as the former ones. They fleece is a thicker, cheaper quality, and the cut seems to bulge around the thighs. One very irritating design flaw is the REI patch that you can feel right on your knee cap when bending. Very uncomfortable!!! They don't snug the body, but have a mind of their own. Another change is that they have drawstrings instead of build in elastic in the waist area. The drawstring also irritates the belly when bending forward. Not at all happy, because I bought two pairs. Ready to return them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable but bad design for internal draw cord The fabric is very comfortable and they fit well. I'm 5'6 110lbs - I'm tiny and the petite length in XS were perfect. However the hard plastic internal draw cord makes these very uncomfortable at the waist line as the plastic connector sits right on my stomach and causes irritation and indentation to my skin. I end up folding the waistband over so the plastic sits on the outside which prevents me from wearing them in public - so they've been relegated to at home lounge pants. If it weren't for this design flaw I'd give 5 stars.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Warm and Comfortable but... These pants were extremely warm and comfortable when being outdoors in cold weather conditions. You can wear tights underneath for more added warm if you prefer. The only flaw for me was the inside pull string, (this is normally on the outside) after wearing these pants for a while that string presses against your skin and it can start to irritate. I loved the pants and how the fleece material felt that I returned these pants found it in the children's section without the string!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Drawstring waist cord pull very uncomfortable I have these pants from years past and they are great. This year I ordered 4 more pairs. The problem this year is the little plastic thing that is used to pull the drawstring tight is on the inside and digs right into your stomach. I've tried tucking a shirt in as cushion but this just makes the pants too tight. I am 5'5" and weight 105 pounds so this is not a body size issue. I think they put it on the inside so that the outside is smooth but who cares about that when there's a hole being made on your stomach! REI please fix this flaw!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love these but... I would have given these an excellent product rating if it weren't for the fact that drying them in a new dryer on the low setting as instructed did not result in no shrinkage. Fortunately, they were a little baggy when I tried them on before washing and drying them. Now they fit next to my skin. Glad I went with the roomier size. Pockets are nice but now they'll look bulgy if anything is in them. Darn. And they are warm.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Logo Placement I was super excited to find these pants. They were warm and comfortable when I tried them on in the store. I bought two pair. At home when I put them on and began walking, the stitched logo below the knee was so abrasive that I couldn't wear them. I returned the pants. I hope REI redesigns these because I'd really like to be able to wear them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and comfortable I just started working on a ranch in Colorado at 9,000 and wanted something warm to wear while I did my chores outside. So far, these pants have been perfect. They keep me warm while I'm out in the -2 degree weather or inside lounging by the fire. I honestly haven't taken them off since I got them. Plus, they have pockets. I'm a little worried the elastic on the waistband is going to get twisted around at some point, but for now it's fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and comfortable I bought these for a trek in Nepal in May, and they were great for wearing during the evening when the temps dropped. I'm 5 ft 3 in and the length was perfect.

Has REI acknowledged the logo problem, as well as the elastics string problem, as mentioned by several reviewers? Are there plans to make improvements?

Asked by: eaglestare
It is very unfortunate that REI doesn't see this as a design flaw and considers it "personal preference" just because they haven't seen enough negative review. I can't imagine anyone who would "prefer" a hard plastic item digging into their waist all day when wearing this. The drawcord connection is extremely uncomfortable - it's not the cord itself! I'd suggest the REI designers wear this item for a day and determine if they still see this as a "personal preference" issue and not a design flaw.
